a great proficient

A favorite Jane Austen line: “There are few people in England, I suppose, who have more true enjoyment of music than myself, or a better natural taste. If I had ever learnt, I should have been a great proficient.”

Such an impossible pride.

Yet I realize…I am able to stoop to such musings over projects sometimes. I look at objects, think of ideas or daydream over materials and think “if I had the time, I would be a great proficient.” Except I don’t typically use the word proficient.

Here’s one that showed me how much I have to learn. I made a throw pillow out of a sweater I no longer wear…

I do rather like it, despite it’s flaws, but I realized how “not simple” my idea was about half way in. I realized how long it would take when my sewing needle broke. I realized how awkward it was when I suddenly couldn’t sew a straight line. Apparently old sweaters are a bit of seamstress kryptonite for me. Fun none the less and a new soft pillow is now sitting on my couch.

I used a bamboo pillow form. LOVE IT! I’ve always been a fan of down and feathers but I think I like bamboo better. Yum. I am hoping to replace my king size feather pillow with a bamboo one soon. Yep…that’s a Christmas hint for those who purchase with me in mind.
