More Christmas Catch Up

These are the little “paintings” we made for the boy’s great grandparents. I was planning to do one for Reubmommy too but it didn’t go so well. I had to start over and it just wasn’t happening. So I made something else with it. I’ll show you that another time. If you can’t read the writing on these…you need a better monitor. Just kidding…here’s what it says:

Hands, feet, eyes and ears
The way we walk, what brings our tears
Each day we learn, each day we grow
A part of you will start to show.

Your features in our skin and hair
Your kindness in the way we care
Our heritage is good and strong
Because your love is full and long.

I was really struggling as to how to put the little poem on the canvas and Tisra, bless her, suggested writing around the outside. I think it turned out well that way. I had to find just the right pen to do that writing and found that a medium point marker was perfect.

In other news…the weather has taken a warm turn and the boys are outside already. It’s not quite 8:30 yet. Owen hates being cold, so he hasn’t played outside much lately. The temperature is supposed to be up to 71 today…crazy.

This is Kris’ first day back to work and I so hated to see him go. Another week at home would have been perfect, but it also would have been expensive, so off he goes to be my paycheck warrior once again. It’s sort of strange to set about doing things today with no Christmas deadline. I got into that groove through November and December and now it feels like someone let me loose in the pasture with all the fences down. I still have the same things to work with but nothing keeps me grazing where I should.

  1. I love how the painting turned out. It was a great idea and I’m sure any granparent would love to have that. Heck, I’d love to have one!

I’m feeling a little “wandery” myself. Hopefully we’ll be back on track soon 🙂

  2. I helped yesterday in the Children’s Department at church and during our gathering we talked about this very thing- starting the year with focus after being so driven during the holiday season. The hustle and bustle is now over, and the tendency might be to – whew!- relax and ease up, but now is the time to focus and make each moment count… walking with the Lord, and grasping each part of the day with purpose. The lesson for the kids focused on the story of Martha and Mary and how we shouldn’t be too busy for Jesus (2 year olds can only grasp so much). That said, it was a good message for me and probably applicable for many of us tempted to float through January in “wind down mode”.

The paintings turned out nicely, and I’m sure everyone loved them. I’ll be especially interested to see what happened with Reubmummy’s piece.

  3. Really sweet paintings! I did my fair share of wandering today, too. I can say for certain, though, that my brain needed it.
