And They’re Off

I made a trip to the post office today. Sent out the giveaway pack to Katrina, sent a little something to my friend Traci, and another little something to a little somebody I haven’t met yet. Little Nola Kelso will be arriving next month and though I’m sure that she has a closet full of lovely things, I wanted to make her some Mini Mary Janes from Aunt Mary. So off they went, all boxed, wrapped and labeled. I took pictures but I’ll wait until next week to show you so that Jessica won’t see them here first.

The boys love going to the post office and I couldn’t figure out why until Ivan ran straight to the counter shouting, “I want a sucker! I want a sucker!”

Yikes.

Yeah…I’m working on that.

I’d love to tell you that I was on top of that behavior, but I’ll just keep it real and say, I was too mad at Ivan to respond at all. I just let the man give him a sucker and prompted a “thank you” out of him. I haven’t let him eat the sucker yet. It’s HUGE…what’s wrong with people? When is that ever a good idea for a little kid? Anyway…

I don’t have much else to talk about, so I’ll leave you with pictures of my dining room centerpiece I worked on a few weeks ago. I’ve never done seasonal decorations other than Christmas. I don’t know if I’ll keep it up or not, but for now…I give you my table treasures for autumn:

Okay…I’m no florist. I was wishing my MIL could come and arrange it for me because I don’t feel like it’s great, but I like the components. I will probably play around a little more with it to try to make it all look more balanced. The bulk of this came from Hobby Lobby. I fell in love with the blue pumpkin first but there were very few other items for fall in blue so I added as much green in with the orange pieces as I could so that the blue at least looked related to the rest of it. Then I saw the bird…and I had to have him, but then it was too blue heavy on the bottom. I added the feather and the blue flowers in hopes of tying it all in and I think it works pretty well. Like I said, it needs a bit of tweaking yet. When I took these pictures I hadn’t even taken the tags off of the flower and berry pieces because I’m very non-committal.

The question for winter is…where am I going to put this autumn stuff?

  1. I was thinking of doing the same thing yesterday. With 90 degree temps and 100% humidity it’s a little hard to get inspired. And I don’t have a clue where to get supplies.

I think you’re arrangement looks fine, but I’m no expert either. It might look really bad and we only thought we had good taste. Maybe if you took some nail polish and drew a halloween face on the pumpkin…

  2. That’s a great idea Kristy! Especially since I’m such a big fan of Halloween and all.

All my supplies said, “made in china” so they must be around there somewhere. hee hee.

  3. I love the table decor! I would have never thought to add blue in with everything, but I like it! I am hoping to get my stuff out in the next week but I just can’t get in the mood yet with the kind of heat we still have.

I’m so excited to see Aunt Mary’s Mini Mary Janes! Thank you thank you thank you!

  4. I love it because the blue adds something that’s distinctively you rather than the average red/yellow/orange.

I will be doing the average red/yellow/orange. I *might* throw a grey pumpkin into the mix if I find one, oh, and a white one too. We shall see.
