Excited

See this:

It’s broken. Has been broken for a long time. It runs water, it swivels, makes a nice spray and looks pretty good, but when you want to turn the thing off…it balks.

I don’t mean to brag (ahem), but I’ve put up with this for a year or more. It was working fine when we moved in but somewhere in the first year of our residence here it started being fickle. There is a crack somewhere on the handle and I honestly don’t know if that’s the problem or not. There is a loose something or other that keeps the shut off mechanism from staying down tight on the faucet and I have to spin it, push it, pull it, adjust it, yell at it and cry a little before it stops completely.

My dear husband is typically pretty quick with the “replace it!” command. But when we first noticed it, we waited, thinking we could figure out a way to fix it.

When we realized it couldn’t be fixed we waited because we didn’t have an income for a while and I didn’t want to replace it with something I’d only want to replace again. I’m a little bit picky about my faucets.

Then I waited…thinking he was going to hold my hand and walk me through replacing a faucet. I don’t know why I thought that would happen…it’s never happened before. Sometimes I get a little stupid. Truth is…he doesn’t often use the faucet and he forgot about it until I nearly blew a gasket trying to get it to turn off one day.

Then…I waited some more because I have a hard time shopping for something that I feel is important, when I have my children with me. I find it very difficult to focus and make a decision in that scenario.

I finally made a few stops, looked at a lot of faucets, and came to a decision. I wanted this:

Isn’t it dreamy?

I LURVE It!

But the list price is $807.00 I could surely get it cheaper at Home Depot but not enough cheaper. I think maybe I love it $807.00 worth, but I will wait until I build my dream home to make crazy, outlandish purchases. If I bought this and we move, even if it’s 10 years from now, I would want to rip it out of the sink and take it with me to feel that I got my money’s worth.

So I looked several hundred dollars back down my list and came to about three choices that would possibly work.

Kris did go with me to Home Depot at that point to see if they carry my choices and they had one…but it was the wrong color.

I wanted black because of my sink and appliances. I was willing to go with stainless, because in general I like it better, but I was hoping to keep the matchy matchy thing going.

I went home and looked on Home Depot’s website to order the faucet in black.

Not listed in black but there was a picture of it in black. Hmmm?

I looked in my Kohler catalog, that I picked up when shopping, and it claimed that the faucet doesn’t come in black. Double Hmmm?

I finally went to the Kohler website and found it in black.

I ordered it yesterday morning from Home Depot. It is supposed to arrive in a couple days.

I’m so excited.

  1. Great compromise! I like it!!!

I’ve done all our faucet replacements. If you need help installing, I’ll happily come over. But, I bet you could also do it unaided. I believe in you! 🙂

  2. What!? You have done them all yourself? You are amazing.

I am very intimidated by that idea. If my mistake could potentially damage our home, my family or myself I don’t usually do it. I’ve already paid for an installation from Home Depot. Just have to schedule it once the faucet arrives. I know it doesn’t cover the cost necessarily but because we scheduled the installation we don’t have to pay tax on the faucet. So I’m essentially paying about $60.00 for someone to do it for me. I think that’s a pretty good save on my time and frustration.

However…next time I buy a faucet. I’m going to call you and schedule a faucet party!

  3. Great faucet! I really love it. Of course, I like the elegant curve better than the mod fixture but that’s just me.

I will happily play the squealy damsel in distress card at any time if it means that I don’t have to install anything or kill mice. Thankfully Travis would install it without me having to ask. But I keep those cards in my back pocket at all times just in case.

Oh, and I’ve been banned from anything having anything to do with electricity so I’m sure Trav wouldn’t let me install this anyway.

  4. I think the curve goes better with the style of the kitchen too Amy. Still modern, but not ultra modern.

I can handle mice. The only time we had a mouse (that I know of) Kris was out of town. I took care of it and it never came back. I don’t know if it was the poison I put out, or if my initial scream scared him so bad he never came back.

  5. My money is on the poison. Trav called it crack for mice. They never came into the kitchen again but came back for at least a second helping of the poison.
