Lost Art

A young man named Arthur McFhen,
Weaved a tale and a vision in pen.
When his wife deigned to look,
She said, “This is no book!”
So he took to accounting again.

School is almost over for the year. Owen is excited about summer break and things are moving along without major incident.

I have not yet decided on school for the next year. Kris and I talked about it quite a bit last night and we are neither one convinced one way or the other. Owen surprised me by saying he wanted to be home schooled, but has wavered since. Ivan has been steady in his desire to have pre-school at home, but also says it’s because “mommy wants me to.” I’m not sure why he says that, other than when it was mentioned many months ago I explained the fact that I would have to make three trips to school and I didn’t know if I wanted to do that. He’s the sensitive one.

Well, we are off for one of four more morning trips to school.

  1. Ah! But that was just her opinion, she doesn’t sound very encouraging 😀

Home school. There’s so much to consider and I’m sure that you and Kris will consider it all. Are you considering homeschooling completely by yourself or finding a school option where the kids go to school a day or two a week and you’re responsible for a couple of subjects? I know there are more of those types of things than just the one we’re using.

  2. Some advice that has stuck with me came from a woman who was a pioneer in the homeschool movement. Her parents had risked jail to homeschool their kids. She told me that it really isn’t up to your kids whether you homeschool or not. Sounds kind of dictatorial but we are in charge of them til they are old enough to make their own choices. Other than a few bumps in the road my kids have loved being homeschooled!

  3. Traci has some decent advice. I think that children’s moods shift easily, and are influenced easily. For instance, my 7 year old is pitching a fit int he background about his chores right now. Um. Mean ol’ Meany that I am… the boy’s still gotta finish before he does anything fun. I think it’s important to have some support from the children, otherwise it can make your job as teacher harder. However, God doesn’t steer you wrong. If He has an opinion on it, I’m sure your prayers will uncover it.

  4. Amy – We have not looked into a school/home combination yet. I don’t know if there is an option like that close to us or not. It’s not specifically what I’m looking for, but may be something to consider.

Traci and Tisra – We made it clear to Owen and Ivan from the beginning that the decision isn’t up to them, but that we do want to hear what they think on the subject.

  5. Poor Arthur! Placing the fate of your dreams in the opinion of one person…maybe it’s not so smart 🙂
