Maybe Today….

…they’ll be done.

There is still some sanding, there are some pieces of molding that have to be found (apparently they don’t make the pattern we currently have any more), and then all the trim has to be painted. Maybe today.

Here’s the last area that needs finishing yet.

(Yes, I know it looks like I live on a ship because this picture is crooked.)

The ceiling will have to be painted to blend into the current painted ceiling and hopefully there will be no issues there because although I’ve noticed a lot of inconsistency in the paint job on the ceiling from the time we moved in, I don’t want to have to paint it. If they paint the kitchen ceiling they would have to paint the living room too.

On the other hand…if they do it…I won’t have to.

However, I would like to replace at least three different light fixtures in the kitchen and living room so I think it would be better to paint after that. It would be a shame to have to do it twice.

Here’s what else I’ve been dealing with this week. If you remember I stayed home from church with Aron on Sunday. He is still suffering from whatever it is, though he has gotten much better. I find it fascinating how much his looks change while sick though. I think he’s a pretty handsome kid most of the time. But my word, when he is ill he changes drastically. I have never seen any one altered so severely from a cold or flu.

This is what Aron used to look like…

This is what he looks like this week…

Here he is on the couch. I’ve been covering the couch with a quilt so that he can sit still and watch a movie now and then. He is so constantly covered in a film of snot I have to protect my furniture from his glaze.

All that exposed, he is feeling a lot better this morning. He still has a very slight fever. I use an in ear thermometer and only one side read above normal so I’m guessing there is a minor ear infection there. I can tell he feels better though as he is actually playing with Ivan today instead of crying because Ivan looked at him. His eyes do look a bit brighter too. I’m so glad.

And to wrap up I thought I’d share a decorating whimsy.

In the quest for more drama I found this picture and thought it would be great to have an accent wall like this in my kitchen. Not exactly this color but something equally dramatic against my new subtle walls.

I don’t have a wall like this so I was thinking maybe a box around my window near the table. Like this:

Or this…

Or this…

Or maybe just some bright curtains.

I don’t know. I love the way that picture looks, but I can’t not have something to cover that window at night. We’re just too close to neighbors and such for that. Maybe bright curtains that cover that entire section of wall. That would be very Candace Olsen wouldn’t it?

  1. Loving the accent wall ideas – and I like the paint idea instead of the curtains, no matter how Candace Olsen it is. You could always do like a Roman shade – a fabric one – on the inside of the window frame for cover. I just think that square of color somehow suits your aesthetic perfectly.

  2. Looks like Fifth’s Disease, though I’m not a doctor. Gabe had it earlier this year and it was a big blotchy annoying two weeks.

  3. I like that blue accent wall too- that shade and everything. I think I like the idea of painting a whole accent wall or curtains but I’m not really that daring. Well, I am with some things but I always ending up playing it safe with decor…and clothes…and hair…never mind.

  4. Poor sweet boy!! Glad to hear he’s feeling better. And I’m so excited to see what you end up doing in the kitchen! I really like the idea of bright curtains covering the whole wall…but I’m sure whatever you decide will look great!
