The Last Straw

I have been trying to come up with a skit for our Spring Seminar and running into road blocks along the way. I was able to write one for the Friday night service and I think it will go well. It’s about gifts, living in your own calling and not trying to emulate other peoples gifts. It’s easy to find yourself wanting to have some of the more visible gifts, but if it’s not what you are called to be doing, it won’t work well.

Because we are down to the wire, I prayed last night that God would give me an idea quickly or close the door on this one. Almost immediately I started writing about the last straw. How small it seems and how powerful it is. I wrote it as a monologue and it’s humorous but not hilarious and serious but not a tear jerker. I hope it’s enough. I’m going to read it to Vanessa this morning and see if she likes it.

I wanted to send you over to my sister Becky’s blog for a quick look-see. She wrote about some child-hood experiences on my grandparents farm that brought all these warm fuzzies my way. Thought you might enjoy it too.

I’m off to school and then Bible study this morning. I feel energized so I hope this day will reflect that in productivity and maybe even a little fun.

Just realized Ivan still isn’t dressed and it’s time to head out the door. Better go.

  1. I enjoyed Becky’s stories! What precious and beautiful memories to have. Hope the skit goes over well for you. I really hate it when inspiration waits until the last minute.

  2. Here’s a quote from 24 last night. “Stress is the fertilizer of creativity” I’m certainly not discounting the prayer. That was vital. I find that this quote is often true, though. I’m glad the inspiration came, though. Apparently He didn’t want to shut the dooor on it.

I found Becky’s stories the other day. I also had her forward that photo on as well. Oh my goodness, how did they get Emily to stand in for Esther way back then? I knew she looks like her, but that’s a good example. Fred still managed to look ornery.

  3. My inspiration usually kicks in at the end, too. Many creative types have a procrastinator spirit, I think. But the way you describe it, I suddenly realize that it’s not being a procrastinator at all! It is God making it happen only when it is “just right”. (well, maybe not *always*…)
