Weekend Wonders

Friday was up and down as I felt the woes of getting over it. I took it pretty easy in order to feel better by Saturday.

Becky had some things at her house that I needed but the thought of driving up to Greenbrier was a little overwhelming for me in the morning. I was hoping by afternoon I would have eaten enough to feel more like it but they were planning to leave by 2:30 and there were naps to be had in there somewhere. I finally just asked if I could get into her house even if she weren’t there and she said it was fine. It then struck me that they have a pool in the backyard that might be a nice refresher. She said it was full and told me where the towels were. I called Kris to find out where he was and what his expectations were for the evening. He was in the middle of unloading a truck when I called. He doesn’t normally unload trucks so I was a bit surprised but I also thought it quite fortuitous that I could offer him an opportunity to take a little dip in a pool at such a time. Their pool is not a big pool but it is perfectly suited for the kids and certainly large enough for us to cool off in and that’s just what we did. The boys loved it, Kris and I relaxed and cooled off and I even got a few pictures with my new camera.

Aron did all the splashing I never let him do in the bathtub. Ivan felt so big because he could walk around the pool on his own and Owen was learning about swimming underwater. They had a great time.

By Saturday morning I had nearly forgotten that I had been sick. Thank God for His wonderful creation. Our human bodies heal so wonderfully.

Kris and I rushed around cleaning and straightening for our company that was coming on Saturday. We made homemade ice cream and folks from our Sunday school class brought more ice cream, topping and treats and we all had ourselves an old-fashioned ice cream social. We had a good time, with the group, lots of kids made it an adventure, Ivan taking a dump in his underwear…twice…made it crazy and a surprise rain shower made it hilarious. In the end everyone left with smiles on sticky faces and our house was still clean.

On Sunday we experienced the 4th of July celebration at church. Owen sat through the service with us and anticipated nothing…simply endured everything…until the fireworks display at the end. Finally the laser lights came on and the noise and smoke and spray of fireworks took over the building. He loved it. The balloon drop and confetti were just icing on the cake for him. Most of the kids in the room were running all over the place having a blast collecting balloons and throwing confetti in the air. Owen just watched. His personality is so funny in that regard. He is not against getting involved but he is so much more apt to observe it all first. I am now very anxious for Ivan to turn four so I can see how he reacts to it.

Yesterday afternoon we had some fun looking at houses. We aren’t actively looking for a something new, but we both have that unsettled feeling about where we are. It’s not a dissatisfaction as much as it is just a knowing that we won’t be here long. We toured Spence Creek (fyi: If you look at the interactive floor plan viewer on this site you will want to use internet explorer and not Firefox. Somehow they are not compliant and it’s very, very tiny in Firefox.) yesterday. The neighborhood is beautiful. They have an almost perfect set up in regard to subdivision life. However, it’s technically in Lebanon. Lebanon is a great little town in itself but living there would put us farther from everything and everyone we drive to regularly. We really enjoyed looking at their model homes and I would totally recommend them to anyone who didn’t mind living that far out. Very nice and very reasonably priced homes.

The boys didn’t get naps, so we put them to bed a little early and then sat out on the deck and talked about houses and land and silly dreams and reality. The weather was perfect and we stayed until the bugs wanted to get in on our conversation. It was a very nice day.

  1. I’m so glad you’re feeling better and I love the pics of the boys in the pool.

So can I give you the obligatory, “you should move to Franklin” speech? Cool Springs isn’t that far away… 🙂

  2. Move to Franklin….Hmmm. Kris is about 75% for that. It’s that drive to church and of course being further away from Becky and Bobby that’s a real kicker. If we could move that direction and live close to the interstate it would be great. So keep your eyes open. 🙂

  3. Well, I did find a house for Eric and Tisra. Just let me know what you’re looking for and I’ll find a house for you 🙂 That would be so cool!

  4. I had to laugh about the Cornerstone July 4th thing and Owen- he is TOTALLY like that, and I could picture it all in my head… him taking it in, and not acting “childish”. He’s going to be one of those kids (already is?) who is way too mature for his age! 🙂

As far as houses go, I know that you will find the right spot when the time is right. And, of course, “silly dreaming” can be quite wonderful. Eric and I are going to have a summer condo in downtown Chicago, you know. 😉

  5. Fortuitous truck unloading indeed! Sounds like it was the tipping point into a wonderful weekend 🙂
We’re casually looking at houses too – in the same kind of mindset that you are. Not sure this is where we need to stay, not sure if it’s time to go….just unsettled.
