Spending Time in the Sun

Here’s something I wrote a few years ago. The concept keeps coming to mind so I thought I’d just paste it into my blog. It’s good to give testimony of God’s constancy. He is so faithful.

Today as I was mowing the back yard I could feel the sun hitting the back of my arms and from the intensity of the heat I knew I was being burned. As I considered the day and the time I was spending with the sun on me I quickly mulled over the knowledge I have of sunburn and circumstances that lead to it. One thing that struck me as a wonderful analogy is the fact that even on cloudy days, when the heat is not nearly so intense, the sun is still shining and is still burning the skin regardless of what we see or feel. The past two years have been full of cloudy days in my life. Clouds have covered what I know to be true: that God’s love is still bursting for me. He is still present, still watching, still caring, protecting and desiring me. Those days I must spend time with Him, regardless of what I see or feel, I can still be penetrated by His presence and walk through this life with a glow that tells the world I have been with Jesus. I may spend hours with Him and never feel His hand upon me, but I am confident that His touch will leave its mark upon my soul.

  1. It is a good analogy. I often think of the same concept when I fly because you can still see the sun when the plane gets above the clouds. Thanks for pulling out something old because today was a day that I really needed to hear it. Funny how He always knows that isn’t it?
