Everyday Life

2nd Addendum

Last night I was dropping the boys off in their respective rooms in the nursery and decided to take the elevator, instead of the stairs, up to the third floor where Kris would be teaching the pre-marital class. Our Sunday school classroom is also on the third floor and I normally take the stairs in an effort to continue in my normal routine and not “give-up” as it were on what I’m capable of. Yesterday, however, I was in a lot of pain (pinched nerve again) and decided that it was time to allow myself a little comfort and make use of the conveniences afforded me.

There at the elevator I met a sweet lady who talked with me all the way up to our third floor destination and who was complimentary in every way about my condition, size, color, health and position in life. It was extremely uplifting and I only wish I had gotten her name. I’ve never noticed her before, though I’ve probably seen her in passing. After church I saw her again as she was one of the volunteer helpers in Ivan’s classroom. I waved to her and she pointed to Ivan and told me he’s a “cutie.” He is pretty cute.

The rest of the night was full of compliments as well. I mean, not one person gave me the anxious, raised eyebrow look. There was one humorous incident that I do have to mention. Kris and I were coming down the stairs after church to get the boys and as we came around the corner someone was coming from the opposite direction and we startled her in her haste. The expression on her face was priceless as we could easily discern that my belly was the first thing that she saw and it totally took her by surprise. Her eyes got real big and she said, “whoa!” as she veered and passed by us. Kris and I laughed out loud as we went on our way. It was such a natural and comical response it certainly couldn’t offend me. I’m still laughing thinking about it.
