Everyday Life

Since Saturday

Since the diaper shower on Saturday I’ve had a fun week. Tim and Kristy returned from North Carolina on Saturday afternoon. Dad was here at the house for a little while too so we all relaxed and played with the boys for a bit before he returned to Bobby and Becky’s.

On Sunday we all went to church together and met up at Fazoli’s for lunch. We chose Fazoli’s because they have a back room you can reserve for free and with our small crowd of 16 on a Sunday we figured that was our best option. It turned out to be a good choice. The place wasn’t incredible in terms of beauty or cleanliness, they are still a fast food chain we must remember, but it was cool, private and roomy.

The rest of the week was a series of relaxing days mingled with days of full action. The kids were constantly in high gear because they don’t normally have each other to play with and the house took on a lot more wear and tear than it’s used to. Kristy’s family left us on Thursday morning and I used that day to do a little deep cleaning that has thus far been neglected during my pregnancy. I was sweating so bad I am sure I must have lost a pound or two, so I had a bowl of ice cream to make up for it. There is so much more of that type of cleaning that needs to be done but I’m waiting for the right inspiration. Maybe after the baby comes.

Yesterday was wonderful. Amy and Tisra brought their youngest three over as well as eager hearts and hands and a cooler full of lunch. Tisra grabbed my broom from my hands and finished my crumb collecting in the kitchen while Amy settled kids upstairs to play. We sat down intending to watch a girlie flick but mostly chatted. It’s been too long since we sat down together and we all tried to catch up. I was relaxed, which was their goal in coming they told me, and I wanted to be good and oblige them. It was so sweet to have my lunch made and brought to me and even my kids lunches were produced without my help. The boys had a great time playing with Dean and the girls and Ivan was still able to nap through it all. Baby gates are wonderful things. They had to leave, too soon of course, and Owen and I shared a little bowl of popcorn while I finished the movie. We must do it again soon…not so much for my relaxation but to keep up better.

The afternoon bore on in it’s heated fury and though I didn’t want to leave my cooled environment I needed a towel bar in the upstairs bathroom. So to Target we ventured, only to be disappointed. My house guests will be back on Monday, so I do need to replace the mangled bar that previously served us, but has been mercilessly ripped from the wall. My suspicion is that someone was trying to do pull ups from it. Never leave a towel bar without a towel on it when creative minds are about. I will try again today and see if I can find what I need. Maybe I’ll be so lucky as to score a trip out without children. Stranger things have happened.

  1. I had such a nice time with you- definitely will do it again! Hopefully next time you’ll have some laundry and dishes built up for me to help with!

Towel bar suggestion: We put towel hooks in the bathrooms. The kids can hang towels better on their own, you fit more towels per segment of wall, and there is less temptation to hang or do pull-ups.
