Everyday Life

After the Weekend

Saturday and Sunday were pretty busy. Yet, not as busy as they could have been. Kris and I had a meeting on Saturday morning and Amber was nice enough to watch our boys for us. When we picked them up they were blowing bubbles on her front steps and playing with the cat. What could be better? They had already eaten lunch and seemed compliant enough so we headed straight to the mall in Hickory Hollow to do a little belt and jeans shopping for Kris. He’s now a sharp dressed man, and needs a little spiffing in the casual corner of his closet. Though long and exhausting for the boys, our trip was successful on many fronts and we were able to drive home with our boys asleep and our shopping bags full.

The rest of the afternoon found us working busily at cleaning out old clothes and other items that we need to take to Goodwill. How quickly we have packed our closets full of things we don’t need. The sewing purging continues and will hopefully end today with the final sort of notions and extras. I have 5 large drawer bins with fabric and the rest will be in smaller labeled boxes. I believe my plan is coming together well. It’s now just a matter of figuring out what to do with the fabric I am not keeping. Anyone need scraps for craft projects for their school, Bible school, nursery, daycare, nursing home etc.? I really hate to put it in the trash, but I may have to. I looked online but all I found were places trying to get rid of their own scraps and tons of websites dedicated to making projects with scraps. No good…one needs time for such things.

Sunday the sun shone on us all day. We had a great time at church. Kris’ Sunday school lesson was well presented and well received. The sermon was one of several that I want to get on CD and listen to again and lunch afterward with friends was delightful. We rushed home after lunch so that I could get ready for a bridal shower back at the church and a meeting with the ladies board directly after. Upon arriving at the shower, I was met by Vanessa our ladies ministry director and told the meeting was postponed. Though I was very much looking forward to the meeting…brainstorming was on the agenda, one of my favorite things…I was glad that I wouldn’t be gone the entirety of the afternoon and evening. I got home to find a pile of Goodwill rubble at the bottom of the stairs. Kris was cleaning out more closets. I sat down in a chair and watched for a while. Unwilling to dive in until I had caught my breath, but soon we were attacking the “unwanted” together and making great progress.

So, today it is my desire to finish the last of it and get this place in tip top order before chaos arrives in the form of baby makes 5. I am so thankful for the space we have and it’s usefulness, there is no reason to take it for granted and stuff it full. I am convicted and must repent. I will be on my knees…sorting not praying. I pray in my comfy chair.

  1. Your closet is practically the size of our entire master bedroom- so I could see it easily getting overrun if you allowed it to. Tiring work, but such wonderful results. What a shame that the extra fabric may go to waste. You’d think some school out there would want the scraps for crafts. Of course, as you don’t have enough time to do anything with them yourself, you probably also don’t have enough time to make calls to all the local schools.

  2. Tisra – Yes, you’re right. I have called two places, a school that wasn’t interested and a nursing home that I haven’t heard back from. And yes, the closet is quickly overrun. I don’t have a dresser and the closet only has the top shelves so other than boxes, I don’t have a way to organize things in there. Now with added maternity clothes I have a ton of stuff I don’t have room for. At this point in my pregnancy I can’t wear more than a fourth of the maternity clothes. I’m just too large, so there’s a ton of space being wasted by clothes I can’t wear.

  3. If you don’t need your scraps, I can take them from you. I, too, hate to see things go to waste, and I have been trying to do more with fabric lately as opposed to my usual paint/canvas. (Speaking of which: I hoard paper like you hoard fabric. If you took a look at my closet, you’d think it was a center for sorting recycling, not a treasure trove of scraps of blue, white, purple, yellow, red, green.)

  4. Progress . . . I love progress. We loved having your boys Saturday, though I think the cat is resting easier without the extra kids around 🙂 She’s a one-kid cat.

  5. Michelle – bless you. You can have them all! I’ll load up a box and bring them to you if you’d like. We can plan a morning and have lunch or something. Let me know when you’re free.

Amber – You are too kind. I’m always so excited for the boys when they go to your house because you and Madison always treat them so well. They feel like little princes at your house. Thank Lou Lou Bell for us.

  6. What fun! I like cleaning out closets. And what a schedule you keep! Ugh. It makes me exhausted to read about it.

  7. good job on the cleaning out!! i so need to do that as well.
if it helps the salvation army will come and pick it up for you, as well as the ARC….and you still get your tax deduction!
