Everyday Life

It’s Monday!

I woke up so out of it this morning I thought it was Sunday again. I slept pretty hard, and felt exhausted most of the morning. I think that (beyond pregnancy) the cloudy sky and threatening clouds had a lot to do with it. I was able to get ready and out the door in time for our last Bible study session. I had a good time, even won a little door prize, and then took the boys to Kroger to get some groceries. The boys were groggy too and Ivan fell asleep nearly every time he got in the van. I made it out of Kroger just as the first sprinkles hit the van and I was grateful for that. I am also so grateful to have a garage. For so long I had to unload in whatever conditions were out there and the garage has been such a blessing. I am determined not to take it for granted. The precipitation didn’t last long at all and soon the wind and sun had dried everything off and Owen was able to play outside by the time he woke from his nap. The only thing I was able to accomplish around here was dinner and an improved kitchen. It’s not really clean yet, but it’s a lot better than it was. Ivan was having a rough afternoon, belly ache and teething as well, so it was a little hard to work independently.

This is Kris’ last week at his old job. In case any of you don’t know, he will be stepping out to become an independent consultant. I’m so excited for him and really hope this is a good week for him. The boys and I visited over there on Friday and it will probably be our last time there. It is very different than it used to be, even for us passers by. The empty cubes and atmosphere that speaks of change and dissatisfaction was enough to discourage anyone. I am very glad Kris can make this change and that we are both confident in what is ahead for him. I can honestly say that I haven’t had an ounce of worry over this move or the risk that it could be. I feel that the timing and the encouragement that he’s received have been solid confidence builders and that God has ordained this as his next adventure.

Tomorrow, weather permitting, I’m going to take the boys to Old Hickory Village for haircuts and play time at the playground. I think I’ll pack some sandwiches and let them eat lunch there as well. The last time we went, Ivan was quite the big boy, climbing up and going down the slide with no fear whatsoever. He and Owen were enjoying each other so much and I only wish Kris could have been there with us to see them in action.

  1. What is Old HIckory Village? Am I nuts?! I lived on that side of town for how many years? I’m thrilled for Kris and the new adventure and am so glad you guys are at peace. Also, I envy your garage. We have a two car garage, but MAN, it is full. Bikes and scooters and balls and skates- where else do you put 3 kids’ worth of outdoor toys? We only have two cars, but I think we need a three car garage!

  2. Tisra – Old Hickory Village is the little area of Old Hickory that holds the Post Office and the community center. There used to be that big flea market there (it burned down) and there is still a little barber shop, dry cleaner and restaurant on that lot. It’s near DuPont and where Kristy and Tim used to live. I like to distinguish it from Lakewood as it has a completely different atmosphere. It is all the same zip code but as Old Hickory spans such a large spread out area, including part of Wilson county, Old Hickory Village specifies that small town area near DuPont.

Do you ever watch “Mission Organization” on HGTV? They do a lot of garage makeovers where they organize and find homes for lots of toys and even a car or two. It’s one of my favorite things to watch. I can’t really afford the tools they use though, so I’m following the sparse means space philosophy in the garage. We don’t have as many toys either, partly because our street is not as conducive to the bikes and scooters that you’ve had opportunity to use.

  3. I’ll have to TiVo Mission Organization. I think our biggest problem is all the outdoor gear. What are going to do with FOUR kids’ worth of stuff?! That will mean SIX bikes. We’ve also got the kids’ Corvette, and a wagon and the spare fridge out there, too. Eric just bought a tool chest- that doesn’t take up *less* space, it just makes the space we have more useful. And, there are a few things in the garage that we have no other space for since this house is smaller. Oh well.

  4. Good luck to your hubby! Sounds like a big move but a good one. I would be grateful for a garage, too!
I like the “improved kitchen” remark. I resemble that comment! Except today when I really deep cleaned in there!

  5. I have nothing insightful to add BUT I finally made it to the comment box! Oh and I’m excited for you guys. This should be a great adventure.
