Let Me Eat Cake!

I made a cake for dad’s birthday, which was yesterday, and I left some of it up at Becky’s where he is staying and brought about 8 small pieces home with me in the pan it was baked in. I emphasize small because I’ve already had more than one piece of it today. It’s my favorite thing. It’s basically the same cake I made for my birthday, chocolate cake with cooked chocolate frosting. It’s like eating cake with a thin layer of fudge on top. What’s not to like? Dad’s enjoyment of chocolate rivals me and all my sisters put together so this is no favor for myself. He is no slouch when it comes to ice cream either. I’ve seen the man put away a quart in one sitting. He has slowed down recently as digestion just isn’t what it used to be…wonder why? Anyway. The cake is sitting on the kitchen island and well covered to keep pests out of it…like me.

I went to Bible study this morning and enjoyed it as usual. I packed up the boys afterward and we headed toward Thompson Lane to meet dad and Becky and Kris for lunch at Baja Burrito. It was yummy. Then Becky and Kris left us and Dad and I took the boys to the zoo. A friend of dad’s met us there and the five of us strolled around and enjoyed the weather. It was a little cool in the shade, but quite perfect for the amount of exercise we were getting. We came straight home with Owen explaining all the other things we could do before we went home, like drive by the church to see the flag, go to the park, go to Walgreens etc. I think he was afraid he was going to have to take a nap when he got home. Ivan was already asleep in the seat beside him and was dropped into the crib as soon as we got home. It was almost 3:00 so a nap for Owen was pretty much out of the question. Instead he’s outside playing while I enjoyed my second piece of cake all by myself in the peace and quiet. Ah…there are little luxuries that can only be appreciated once you have been exposed to proper chaos in life.

  1. I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND. For that very reason, I’m kind of crazy obsessed about having silence and a good book or my laptop while I eat- when I can. Not dinner meals, of course, but if its just me and the kids, I’ll feed them then release them to play and *then* I’ll eat. Small luxury for a girl like me who gets very little alone time. 🙂

  2. Oh- and what’s up with Kristy having a MySpace page instead of a blogger page? Don’t like the MySpace layout or cluttered commenting thing. Kristy- hope you’re doing well… When’s that baby supposed to show up?
