Flurries and Other Bits About the Weather

I actually saw snow this morning. I had to leave early for a dentist appointment and on the way back there were tiny snowflakes hitting the windshield. It was short lived and almost imperceptible but we did have snow.

The wind howled all night long. I woke several times to hear things being beaten against other things, something sliding across the driveway and lots of whistling and tapping all through the neighborhood. When I opened the garage door this morning there was a portion of one of our shutters lying on the driveway. When I took a look I could see where it had come from and a neighboring window had a similar predicament with half of its shutter hanging precariously off the house. I don’t know what it will take to fix and or replace these but it looks strange to see the windows without them. Sort of like a smile with a tooth missing. Behind us one of our neighbors lost two large portions of their fence but I didn’t notice any other issues as I drove out of the neighborhood.

It’s going to be a cold weekend and Kris is planning to finish off the Christmas lighting around the house. I like what he’s done so far but there are bushes to light and another roof line to accentuate so out he will go to work on rough foliage with numb fingers. I appreciate it. When he finished the porch on Monday night we took Owen out to look at it and he mentioned something about Christmas trees, then as if a new idea had struck him he shouted…”Is this a Christmas house?”

I trimmed our shrubs yesterday in preparation for the coming lighting and found that we have an abundance of holly berries this year. We get them each winter but under the overgrowth of the bushes was quite an unusually large amount of red berries. This picture is from one of the Holly Trees that flank each side of the house.

  1. Wow! I don’t think I woke up once last night and haven’t looked outside to see if anything happened around here.

It’s so cute when kids get to the point that they start to figure out things like Christmas.

  2. Kristy, all the pieces are too short. I have a little pocket in the molding above the front door and I think I’ll try to put it in there. I did that one other year and it looked pretty good. It’s just a lot of small pieces and that makes it hard to make it look nice. It’s also all real, so I hate putting too much effort into something that’s going to shrivel up and fall to pieces in a short time.
