Grandpa!

Grandpa is here. Owen has been really enjoying having my dad here for a few days. He and his friend Jan arrived on Friday and have kept themselves busy since they got here.

Saturday they went to the mall and Wal-Mart for some groceries. I went to a birthday party in the afternoon for a lady from church and when I got back they left again for a visit to the Grand Ole Opry. They enjoyed it but could only get tickets to the late show so they were out pretty late.

Sunday they joined us at church and that evening were nice enough to watch the boys for us so we could have a little time to ourselves. It was nice.

Yesterday, I had the boys here by myself most of the day and I canned a few quarts of tomato juice in the morning, made some cornbread for dinner at Becky’s that night and some cookies because the oven was hot and that’s a good enough excuse. A funny thing happened while I was making the tomato Juice. Owen had wanted to go outside because that’s where I was making the juice to avoid mess in the kitchen. Grandpa was getting ready to leave with Jan and I heard them discussing the need for shoes and socks. Owen was compliant on shoes, but for whatever reason, socks were an issue. I told him to go get socks and didn’t hear more from him. As I was outside working I heard the neighbor’s youngest little boy (same age as Owen) crying outside their house. I didn’t see him but I could hear him pretty well and I thought, man, he sounds like a baby over there. I went in and out of the house a couple times and finally noticed him standing at the bottom of the slide in just his pull up. I ignored it and thought, well, he probably wants his brother to play with him or something. When I went in again, I thought, why hasn’t Owen come down with his socks? I went looking and couldn’t find Owen anywhere. Suddenly it hit me…that wasn’t the neighbor’s little boy…it was Owen. What was he doing in their yard and with just a pull-up on? I didn’t have my glasses on or my contacts in so I didn’t recognize him when I had looked out there. The camera was lying on the kitchen table so I grabbed it and focused on the noise next door…boy was I embarrassed. I hope they weren’t annoyed next door by the whiny kid standing in their yard with his shorts around his ankles. So…their kid doesn’t sound like a baby…mine does!!! Their kid wasn’t standing there in just a pull-up, my son was wearing his pull-up and his pajama shorts were around his ankles and his dress shoes were covered in grass and his feet had no socks on them. Grrr. We had a little “discussion” and then I finished my canning.

Last night we went to Becky’s for dinner and then got home very late…whew! The boys still woke up at 6 and 6:30…can you believe that?

Today I’m going to start on painting my new wall. Wish me much productivity. I wish I could show you pictures but for some reason this new software is still not working with me. My IT guy is out of town right now so we’ll work on that later.

  1. Where is your IT guy and how long will he be gone? My IT will be gone tomorrow on a one day business trip to North Carolina. Hee. 🙂

  2. sadly enough…I never heard or saw him….what time yesterday? I was gone until about 1:30.
And sadly yes, Hayden has run around the backyard in just a diaper and just a pull up, but finally you will see him in just underwear! And now he has taken to sleeping in a big boy bed! Big steps here as that means the crib can come down forever now. I know Owen has been in a big boy bed for months now, so it is probably funny to think of Hayden as still in the crib…but he was. sniffle sniffle and I am done buying diapers too. sniffle sniffle. I am probably the only person you know who is sad about stuff like that, most people are cheering! :o)

  3. That is soo funny/sad that you didn’t realize that was you child in the yard. Sounds like my house though. Especially the part when you say they got up early regardless of what time they went to bed.

  4. Sherri, I get sad about that stuff too. I hate the thought of them growing up and the baby door being closed forever.

  5. Forget pictures of the wall. I wanted a picture of the whiny pantsless kid at the neighbor’s yard. Too funny!

I do want to see the wall too, of course!
