Memorial Day Weekend

After all the rehearsals and a busy week it was so nice to relax.

Sunday brought the performance of our much prepared for choir concert. It went well and I actually enjoyed it. Pastor Sara had some good songs picked and all the soloists did really well. I would have to say it was an improvement over last year and Sara is really doing well filling the large shoes of music ministers before her.

Sunday afternoon the whole family sat and watched “Swiss Family Robinson”. This was one of Kris’ favorites from his childhood and Owen enjoyed it for quite a while. It is a long movie and his concentration just gave out about 2/3rds of the way through. Ivan of course fell asleep long before that but I wasn’t really expecting different. We had a relaxing evening and prepared a bit for Monday’s activities.

Monday morning we got up late (8:00) and played with the boys some before diving into lunch preparations. I made two tubs of ice cream and got stuff together for burritos. The Fadely family joined us around 11:00 and we had a very nice time. We haven’t had the opportunity to just hang out like that for a while and it was nice to just relax together and enjoy food and games and food (yes, I know I said it twice). The boys played outside in the water and Eric rigged up the garden hose to run water down the slide and into the little “poodle” (that’s pool/puddle) at the bottom. The three older boys had a great time with this. Lael and Ivan napped about half of the time and we adults withstood the outdoor heat as long as we could before retiring to the airconditioning for a card game.

Now it is Tuesday and I almost forgot to get my trash bin to the road because it feels like Monday. I’ll be adjusting all week I imagine.

  1. We had a great time, thank you, again, for being such wonderful hosts. The food was worth mentioning twice. We came home quite full. 🙂

  2. Swiss Family Robinson was one of Amanda’s favorite movies as a kid too. She used to run around the house yelling “attas” (that’s what the pirate leader yells when he wants the pirates to attack- I guess that’s Disney’s clever pirate language). I really like that movie too it is a long one though.

I’m so happy you guys had a good time and I really miss those Button/Kelso/Fadely get togethers. I remember a summer that consisted of us getting together every weekend (or at least it seemed that way) making ice cream and eating Flavr Ice *sigh*.

  3. We hurried home and watched Cornerstone’s service online. Even over the internet we could tell it was one of the best services ever. The National Anthem sounded good. I even caught glimpses of Bobby and Kris! So, nice to see ya’ll on Sunday.
