To Post Something…

Kelso House has been brewing with activity in the past several days. “Grand-Pappa” was here and Owen has been enjoying every minute. Okay…all except the minutes when he has to be dragged from stores with escalators. He would spend hours I think just going up and down escalators and twice now has made a scene when leaving the premises of these marvelous contraptions. Both times he has also been very tired so I cut him a little slack…but just a little.

Friday was our last day with Joey for a little while as his parents left for Albuquerque this morning for a week long seminar. That night began a Church Ministries Conference for the Assemblies of God in Tennessee. It was held at our church and this allowed our church leadership to attend free. Of course there was no childcare so on Friday night, Dad and I went up to Bobby and Becky’s to watch all the kids and on Saturday morning, the end of the conference, Becky and Dad hung out with the kids which allowed me to go.

Saturday morning at the convention was good, but a lot of the information in the break out sessions was not exactly new to me. I went to one on Women’s ministry and one on Drama. The Women’s ministry one was good but the drama class was a little bit lacking. She knew her stuff…but didn’t necessarily do a great job of presenting it. For instance…she had us do some skits at the end which can be fun…but doesn’t necessarily give anyone in the group any useful information so in my opinion wasted about 15 minutes of our 45 minute class time. There was a joint session at the end in the sanctuary and the speaker for the weekend, Dan Betzer, was very, very good. I wish I could tell all of you what was said but…this is just a blog…I don’t want to get carried away. However…if you ever have the chance to hear him speak. I would recommend going.

Saturday when we got home we warmed up some left-overs and rested. We all got naps except for Kris and then decided to take dad to Baja Burrito. It was wonderful as expected…no even better than expected. I’m always so thrilled with that place. I just love the food. I was smart this time though and made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for Owen. He usually ends up eating only chips because we try to share some of our burritos with him and he gets caught up chewing on a piece of chicken or tortilla for so long that nothing else is consumed. We went from there to HH Gregg down the road to look at Toaster Ovens which they didn’t have and then drove down to Hickory Hollow to Sears. They did have Toaster Ovens and one in particular was on sale…the sale ended that night…so we bought it. However…we are going to return it.

Yesterday was Sunday and we heard another good sermon. We are so blessed in our church. I know that almost everyone who reads my blog feels the same way about their church and I think that’s the way it’s supposed to be. When God places you somewhere He expects you to enjoy what He offers in the way of fellowship. My church is my family and I love experiencing God with those people.

One particular event took place worth mentioning. Pastor received and read an e-mail from another church in this area. Apparently there is a man from Old Hickory who has been going from church to church doing subtle things to cause division among church staff and badmouthing leadership in the area. Our pastor is always a target for this and was of course mentioned in the e-mail as being a liar, though the man has never been to our church or met our pastor. Amazing. Anyway…the e-mail was written from the divisive man to the youth pastor at said church and appealed to his ministerial abilities and leadership skills, stressing his superiority to the senior pastor and the drivel he spilled from the pulpit during his offering appeal. The Youth Pastor didn’t take too kindly to the e-mail and after researching some history on the divisive man sent his picture and the e-mail (including his very straightforward response) to all the pastors in the Nashville area. This, I found to be very funny and somewhat refreshing.

Sunday afternoon we relaxed for a while and then headed out again. We stopped first at Bed Bath and Beyond to get a look at what other Toaster Ovens are out there. Of course we found something we like a little better than what we had purchased which is why we’ll be taking that one back. Our ultimate goal in leaving the house however, was to see the miniature train display at 100 Oaks Mall. The Nashville Garden Railway Society has been using one of the many empty stores at the mall to display their trains. It’s pretty cool and it’s free. I remember dad enjoying trains when I was little so I’ve been wanting to take him to see it for a while. It’s only open on weekends so this is the first it’s worked out for him to go. Owen always enjoys it too and honestly I enjoy seeing the little changes they make now and then to the little scenes they depict around the ever circling trains. It’s very detailed and these people put a lot of effort into making it something worth seeing. We were in a bit of a hurry because we got a phone call while we were out stressing the need for dad to get home. Evidently his boss had left a note last week asking him to come back to work today. He didn’t get the message until yesterday and as he has been laid off for two months he sort of needs to get back and work. He e-mailed this morning at 2:15 saying he had made it in fine and hoped he could get a little sleep before going in to work. I couldn’t do it…I don’t care how much younger I am…the man had no sleep the night before…drove 7 1/2 hours and then went to work after maybe getting 4 hours of sleep.

Today…Kris isn’t feeling real well so he is resting near me in the bed and I’m irritating him with all this typing…Hee hee hee. Nah…he’s got his laptop and has tuned me out I’m sure. I am going to make a long list of all I want to accomplish this week and get started very soon. I must capitalize on having only one child in the house and get much done!

  1. I did go to work today. I am sure it was God watching out for me as I drove home and never stopped to sleep. I got about 2 1/2 hours sleep and woke without the alarm at 3 minutes to 6. It was set for six but I hadn’t set the button so it didn’t go off. I didn’t lack energy today either. Am I blessed or what??

  2. I am sorry Kris is sick, I hope he is feeling better by tomorrow and I hope you and Owen don’t catch it either! That is the last thing you need when you are having a break from babysitting. I used to do that too! After I quit working when Cody was just over a year old I had a home daycare with several kids. I have babysat a few here and there after moving here as well.
Thanks for the offer on the hairdryer, I would have taken you up on it earlier, but I made it to walmart and now have a spiffy new red one. Wonder if it will make my hair look any better…ha, I doubt it!
I need to write down your phone number, call me sometime!
