A Few Paragraphs About Owen

Kris was trying to get some pictures of Owen while he was playing and I was helping by coaxing him toward the camera and drawing his attention toward daddy. At one point one of us said…”say cheese,” and he looked at Kris and the camera with a blank look and said, “Oh yeah, cheese.”

The other night we joined the Fadely’s at their house for dinner and Owen thoroughly enjoyed his first ear of corn. He dove in with gusto and did a pretty good job I’d say. He probably would have had more but I waited until there was only one ear left before thinking that he might actually be able to handle it. Thankfully Kris’ hands were free to get a few pictures of his achievement.

Our dinner with the Jernigans was a lot of fun. We had Pita Pizza’s. The little flat bread pocketless pitas are just the right size for a personal size pizza so I laid out all the toppings and everyone invented their own combination on the spot. Pierce enjoyed his but Owen didn’t get one. He was having a very rough night emotionally and though he had taken a nap that day he was obviously ready for bed by 6:00. I fed him first of course and then Kris put him in bed around 6:15 and he slept for over 12 hours.

I don’t know if adjusting to having Joey around is the cause of this or not but he has been extremely clingy and wants to be with mommy at all times lately. When Joey took his nap this morning I took Owen upstairs and we sat in the rocking chair together with blanket and pacifier for about 30 minutes just giggling and singing and eventually he fell asleep there. It was too early for a nap and he didn’t stay asleep but I was glad I had a little time to just pay attention to Owen. I don’t want to baby him too much but I don’t want to neglect him either. It’s not his fault there’s another little boy in the house and though I want him to learn to get used to the idea of sharing my attention, I don’t want to be too harsh about it and force him to be a big boy too soon. He lay down for a nap at 11:00 today and slept for over 4 hours. This makes me think there’s more to it than emotions and that maybe he’s going through a growth spurt or something. It’s so hard to tell what might be bothering him, but I sure enjoy figuring it out. This afternoon and evening, he has been nothing but fun.

  1. I had forgotten what it’s like to try to “figure out” what’s wrong with a little one. Chloe communicates it pretty well (she should, she’s 4) but trying to figure out what’s wrong with Halle is another story. It’s usually a sleepiness issue.
