Everyday Life

Sunday in the South

I had such a nice day yesterday. It was pretty cool outside but pleasant if dressed appropriately.

We went to church and enjoyed another great service…I wish I could tell you how good it was. It’s hard to describe but things are really happening and I believe that our church is not alone in seeing something different going on in our services and in our people. I go expecting something exciting each week. Owen didn’t enjoy it as much. He was in the nursery all morning and evidently a little girl bit him on the hand. It bled a little and they said that he cried pretty hard, but was over it quickly. He still has a little bite mark on his right hand.

After church we came home for vegetable soup which was warming in the crockpot. It was good. I suggested that we go out and sit on the front porch while we let our dinner digest. Owen played around and we enjoyed a few homemade chocolate chip cookies while we relaxed. Again, Owen had a bad experience. He fell as he was going up the front steps and cried for a while but didn’t seem to favor any place that may have been in pain. He was over it and playing again before long so I was not concerned. Last night however, while I was getting him ready for bed I noticed that his upper left front tooth is chipped! I don’t know for sure when it happened but I suspect the fall on the steps may have been it. BUMMER! The dentist office said to just keep an eye on it and make sure it isn’t cutting his mouth or that the tooth wasn’t damaged. She said it would begin to turn gray if that were the case. I don’t think he’s done any permanent damage I just hate seeing the little notch out of his smile.

As we sat on the porch we discussed some errands that we need to run and decided to get ready to go to Rivergate area to pick up a few things. We stopped at BestBuy to return something, then to the sporting goods store to pick up a pump for our bike tires. We went from there to Sears for a couple of drill bits and a new spool of twine for our weed-eater. We walked around the mall a bit and then decided to give Owen the chance to do a little running at the park. We drove downtown and went to Centennial park. Kris and I haven’t been there in a long time and it was nice to drive around and see some of the new things as well as some of the things we’ve never noticed before. Owen enjoyed a nice little playground area and the three of us walked to the little pond and watched the ducks.

Kris and I were ready to go before Owen was of course but he, being much smaller than we are, was forced into agreement. We got home fed him a quesadilla and a banana and put him straight to bed. With no more nap than was allowed while we were in the car, he was exhausted. We parents were pretty tired too and were soon in bed ourselves, lights out, and asleep.

I’m expecting to see things warm up a bit today and tomorrow but I am told that storms are in the works as well. At least we haven’t seen snow. My dad e-mailed yesterday with two pictures of snow covering the ground at his house in Michigan. His e-mail said it was still coming down when he sent it. Must be global warming.

  1. When I was about 2 years old I was climbing on the marble window sill in my bedroom (I remember this like it was yesterday) much in the fashion of 2-year-olds. I slipped and hit my mouth on the sill. I don’t remember if I bled or not but my tooth turned a lovely shade of grey and so it stayed in my mouth until it fell out for my adult tooth. I’ve never had braces or anything and my teeth are straight so if his does then get a second opinion before they try to do something weird with it. Or just ask my mom. ;P

  2. Sitting on the front porch sounds so soothing! I’ve always loved porches……Hope little Owen is okay….Christian was always falling and hurting himself–his mouth, his head, etc.
