It’s What’s for Dinner

Dad has a couple of calves again and by fall 2006 we’ll be looking at having some more beef in the freezer. Yummy.

I’m overloaded with catching up after being gone to Florida and then spending time up at Becky’s. I haven’t kept up with laundry and dishes very well so I have my day planned. I also need some groceries and a baby shower gift for Saturday. I like being busy but I don’t like feeling that I’m behind. I’ll fix this today I’m sure.

Kris and I rode our bikes yesterday and Saturday. It was a good ride both times. Though the Stones River Greenway at Two Rivers Park was rather short it had a killer hill that nearly did us in and several less deadly ones that had us breathing heavy. That was on Saturday. Yesterday, Kendal and June Joseph met us at Shelby Bottoms and we did that loop twice. That was a good workout simply because K and J are pretty good bikers. They have ridden in competitions and Kendal said they usually average around 17 mph on leisurely bike rides. Yesterday we kept up with them but they only averaged around 12 mph to be nice to us. They rode a tandem bike yesterday which looked pretty cool. I think I want to try it sometime. I’m a little sore today but not so much that I can’t function. Which is good since everybody needs to function. After our ride we decided to go to Amy’s Frozen custard for a treat and as we were waiting to order, a group from church walked in. I love that. It made me feel like I’m part of a small town again. Honestly that place reminds me a lot of the restaurant my parents had in our little town in Michigan. Teenagers making Sundea’s and Miss Amy making sure that everybody has what they need…doing a little parenting as well as managing in the back…it brings back good memories.

We had an excellent service at church yesterday too. I am so thankful for a church and a pastor that teach truth and excellence. I was convicted in a couple of areas and realized that in many ways I have been spiritually spoiled and lazy. I have considered myself faithful because I have not stopped doing right, but have I invested myself into doing more? The analogy that came to my mind was driving a car. Many of us have our “Chrisianity” on cruise control. We’re still driving, we get our refill at the pump every now and then but we’re not accelerating. We’re not in any hurry to get done what God wants done. It’s given me a lot to think about.

  1. Don’t be too critical of yourself, you are always doing things for other people. Sometimes even to the point where you wear yourself out! God is pleased with you!

  2. Hey, they have it good. 3 acres of good grass to roam and feed on over the next 19 months. A nice warm barn with fresh hay they can retreat to in the rain. We treat our bovine well before we eat them.
