The Ride, the Road and the Rest of the Day

I got up this morning knowing that it was going to be a beautiful day. I called Tisra to see if she wanted to go somewhere with the kids but she didn’t answer. I called Becky and she had to take her kids to school but if I waited a little while she could meet me at the Greenway. So…I waited.

We got there around 10 I think and hit the trail with gusto. It was indeed beautiful outside. Owen enjoyed himself for a while but eventually just fell asleep. I wanted to get back in time to get Kris’ lunch to him, but it didn’t work out that way. I called him when I got back to the house and it was already 11:30 so he and I decided that he may as well just go out to lunch today. I wanted to go to Green Hills and check out the dried fruit selection at Wild Oats so it would have been silly to drive to his office then drive all the way back to house to clean up after the ride and then drive to Green Hills.

I got a shower, Owen and I ate lunch and off we went to Green Hills. Owen fell asleep on the way so I decided to do a little exploring on the roads out that way. I know generally how to get around down there but have never been sure how everything connects between Harding Road, Belle Meade, Harding Place and other such names and places. So I did a little tour and I feel a little more familiar though I wouldn’t trust myself to give directions or anything. We ended up on the far side of the Green Hills area on Hillsboro pike and since Calico Corners was on the right…I decided to stop in and take a peek. Oh…how I drool over the beautiful fabrics in that place. They have the colors and prints I can’t find anywhere else.

Wild Oats Produce

There are times I sit in my living room and think…”if I had a fabric with swirls like my chair but the color of this paint swatch, it would be perfect.” Of course, I can’t find that fabric anywhere…until I walk into Calico Corners. Of course I find it at $21.00 a yard and if I were to do with it what I want…I’d need 4 yards. Such is life.

Then on we went to Wild Oats. They have such wonderful looking produce…I could smell the dirt from the ground it came from when I walked in and I wanted to take it all home with me…but I didn’t. That probably sounds weird but I’ve always liked the smell of good dirt. Not red dirt…rich dark below sea level dirt. I can’t explain it, but I like the smell. Anyway…we didn’t find much in the way of “buyable” dried fruit. Yes, they have it and yes, it is what I was looking for but no, I will not pay $6.00 for 8 pieces of dried mango. I have been wanting to visit Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware so I decided to go to the mall while we were over there. I also looked around at Pottery Barn Kids, Williams Sonoma and Brighton. Such fun stores!

Now we are home again and I am tired but feel like I’ve been playing in the sun. I think I was outside just enough to get that almost sunburned feeling. I love it. I’m certainly not sunburned, I don’t think my cheeks are even pink. But I feel like I’ve lived a little and the rest of my day will be better for it.

  1. You know, all of the produce at Wild Oats lasts longer than the stuff I buy at Kroger or even Publix. It must be fresher- I wouldn’t doubt it, in fact. The people who shop there buy more produce than your average joe grocery store so stuff probably doesn’t sit on the shelf long.

    I heart Wild Oats.
