Hot Tea, Surveys and Apron Donations

I got a lot of cleaning done yesterday. The downstairs looks good. I need to vacuum up stairs and clean the two bathrooms up here and then I’ll be looking good. The kitchen is already clean this morning and I’ve gotten a bit of sewing done. I just put Owen down for a nap so I have an hour or two to work uninterrupted…unless the phone rings.

It’s sort of gray and overcast today, I think it’s supposed to rain later. It makes me want to stay home and drink hot tea. I had planned to go to the grocery store today but I’m thinking I could get away with waiting until tomorrow. We’ll see.

Kris and I got a survey in the mail. Not just any survey, one of those American Community Survey’s that come from the Census Bureau. It’s pretty long and I need to get started on it but it’s just one of those mundane tasks that isn’t at all inviting. What’s creative about filling out a survey? Well, I could make it creative but then I’d feel guilty. It’s been sitting on my desk for a week now. At first I had the excuse not to do it because I didn’t have the proper writing utensil. Since I’ve been to Wal-mart to purchase a #2 pencil I don’t have that excuse anymore. So…I think today is the day. I’m going to sit down with my hot raspberry tea, my survey booklet with 20 pages of blank spaces and my little #2 pencil for a cozy question and answer time. I’ll bet you wish you were here.

On a more upbeat note…when Brent and Henry were here to rehearse two weeks ago I gave Brent a couple of miki jo/Grandma Katie aprons to take to Haiti with him. Tisra actually made them and they are great aprons. They are made from a pattern we created from my Grandma Katie’s old aprons. He only took the two that were made from the thickest fabrics because they were for the cooks at a mission he was planning to visit. He said the cooks just loved them and it makes me want to produce some more of them. I may see if Tisra or any of the sewing party girls would like to get in on it. We can keep our eyes out for sturdy fabric on the Wal-mart dollar table and whip up some aprons for these hard working ladies.

Well, I’d better get moving. The rest of the day awaits.

  1. I am so pleased that my aprons went to a good home. They were a bit more time-consuming than your straight-forward plain ol’apron, so if we were going to mass produce more, I’d pick up a pattern at the fabric store. All that piping made twice the work! But I’m not volunteering myself right now, anyway, as the thought of sewing makes me shudder. Horrible, isn’t it? But, I think that all that sewing for Lael’s room when i was pregnant meant that I’ve had my fill for awhile.

I’m going to do Lael’s three month photo shortly, and I nearly toyed with the idea of sewing her a dress. But I think I’ll buy one instead. That’s not like me, but I guess I’m just running out of steam. 🙁

  2. I had thought about the piping aspect and felt that a simple hem or even a zig-zag stitch around the outside would suffice for the job. They loved the way the aprons covered well and I love the thought of Grandma Katie’s aprons being used and appreciated by others. Don’t worry I won’t ask you to make any. I’m sure you’ll get back into the groove eventually.
