When Idella shook hands with her in-laws
She was hoping to hide all her worst flaws
But truth was revealed
When words she couldn’t wield
And emotions were sprung just like cat claws

Every time that I visit aunt Dinah
She tells of her travels in China
As she reminisces
My head just dismisses
For she’s never left North Carolina

Young Bethany Jean is adorable,
While her sister, the genius, looks horrible.
One flaunts her good looks,
One is buried in books,
And each finds the other deplorable.

Elsie Jenkins made meals folks exalted
On this talent she never was faulted
Still her husband was prone
Her pride to dethrone
For he never would taste till he’d salted

With her head up, Miss Carrie Jeanne Shole,
Thought benevolence just a deep hole.
“Get a job!” she would spout,
When she saw a hand out,
For her purse far outweighed her poor soul.

In deep sorrow Bree spoke from her heart
That this was not an end, but a start
For she had not displayed
Of what stuff she was made
Until the world up and tore her apart

When Janice looked close at her sister
She was shocked by a huge fever blister
This would not behoove
For their dad wouldn’t approve
Of the boy that had secretly kissed her

An indolent fellow named Bert
Was as stiff as the starch in his shirt
His will to say “no”
Had embodied him so
That his friends finally judged him inert
