Valentine

Kris and I had a nice Valentine’s Day. We did not go out but we did eat a special meal of Subway wraps which has been off limits lately. We stayed low carb of course, but enjoyed something a little different. Kris brought home a movie for me. He purchased Sense and Sensibility and then watched it with me. He’s such a great guy. He also brought home a low carb Hershey bar as a treat and we each had a small section of that. Chocolate! It wasn’t the same as the real thing, but it was chocolate and it was sweet and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

This morning over our usual egg heavy breakfast we discussed where to go from here on our diet. We are both beginning to feel sick from all the heavy food and though we have lost weight we are quite sure that continuing on this course is not going to satisfy us. I’ve investigated the South Beach Diet some and there are things I don’t like about it. I’ve read a lot of what Dr. Mercola has to say and I’m not convinced that his diet would keep us out of the poor house. It’s expensive to eat right and we aren’t ready to go there at this point. However, we can make changes and I think the Atkins diet has put us in a position to really honor those changes. I’d like to start ordering raw milk from a farmer in Kentucky. I am determined to keep white breads, white flour, and other fluffy carbs out of our diet or at least to a bare minimum. We are going to continue our quest to only have sugar on very rare occasions and we are going to begin eating a lot more raw fruit and vegetables. When we get to a point where we can eat organic raw vegetables we will, but for now we’ll eat what we can afford. I have got to establish a menu and really do some careful planning when grocery shopping but I think it will be worth it. We both think that the main thing to do is keep sugar out of the diet as much as possible. Especially white sugar. Turbinado is somewhat more pricey but I’m sure with some research I can find it at a reasonable price somewhere. If we don’t eat that much of it anyway, it won’t be that big of a deal. Eating bad is a lot more cost effective until you consider the doctor bill. One thing I’ll never forget my mother saying after having been through Chemo, Radiation and a trip to Mexico to try to stop cancer was “if there’s one thing I’d change…it would be to stay away from sugar.” Our decision this morning was…let’s pray about it and go from there.

In other news my sister Kristy has begun blogging. Her first post came out today on Blogger and I hope she keeps it up to date. It’s nice to be able to hear the thoughts of your family far away.

Owen has been so good this morning. He slept late after having gone to bed early, he is playing and not whining in the other room while I type and he’s just so dang cute I can’t stand it. Yesterday, in an attempt to walk through the living room he fell and hit his cheekbone on the coffee table. He was instantly black and blue and I felt so bad for him. I know it really hurt. He has forgotten it already but the bruise is still there. I took a picture of it so that he can see it later. Poor boy. His walking is still so wobbly and he has to concentrate so hard, I wish so bad I could help him but obviously that wouldn’t do any good. At least he’s determined and keeps getting back up. He’ll get there.

  1. I saw the pic of Owen and thought “He’s so cute!” not noticing the black eye. Since I have girls I’m not familiar with the “black eye” territory. Chloe did fall off the potty onto her head today though- ouch!

I’m sure the wraps were fabulous considering your present diet choices. It is really tough to keep up with a rich diet like that though.

Happy hunting! I’m sure you’ll find the diet that’s right for you.

  2. The bruise doesn’t show up very well in the picture. It’s actually a lot darker than that, but that’s alright. No sense exploiting the kid’s pain too much.
