Sitting

I’m sitting at the car dealership having our 65,000 mile service accomplished. It is always somewhat of a pain to be here in an enclosed space where my kids are limited by the dirty toys but at least this time…I have free wi-fi.

We had a nice dinner last night with friends. I made my chicken and crab bisque and got some yummy Tuscan garlic bread from Publix. I fixed a salad to go with it and made a small chocolate raspberry cheesecake for dessert. The guys sat in the living room and discussed technology while Kara and I sat on the back porch and talked about people, relationships and parenting. That seemed to suit everyone well. They have a boy who is almost the same age as Ivan so he fit right in the middle of our gang and the sounds of running, jumping, squealing and shouting were common throughout the evening. Their older daughter was content to play with the boys for some of the time but joined us on the porch when it became too much.

I have a lot of soup left over. I don’t know why I made so much. I think I’ll see if my neighbors want some because it doesn’t freeze very well.

Today is the last full day of school for Owen. He is so excited about summer. He has been begging to go to the pool for months and I am hoping we can do that this week at some point. I think Thursday will be celebrating summer day and I’ll try to get them down there before the crowd gets too thick for my tolerance level. My hope is that they will be worn out by the sun and water and will succumb to naps. Then I have a summery dinner planned and we’ll let them stay up late! They almost never get to see fireflies or play after dark because we are so rigid about bedtime. This will be a special occasion and then we’ll get back to being mean parents again.

I’m hoping we can squeeze in a drive-in movie sometime this summer. Watertown has a drive-in that our neighbors visit pretty frequently. I’d like to check it out.

Well, I am still sitting here. Thankful for the internet access but still wishing I could be more productive at home. I think I’ll write some more on my distaff blog as well as make some plans for a Girls In Stitches night for the week after next!

  1. I have the benefit of living 1/2 mile from Firestone. Car maintenance for me means drop off the car, walk home and walk back to shop when car is ready. I go stir crazy waiting for car maintenance. I feel your pain, but at least you have wi-fi. It could definitely be worse.

  2. I want to go to a drive-in! We haven’t been to one since we all went to see Shrek in KY. I don’t think Halle was even born then.

Dinner sounds fantastic…glad you had a great time.

  3. Kids need to see fireflies! I’m glad you’re relaxing the bedtime rule for a night! I have the best memories of summer as a child. I think those country childhood memories are important formative factors. Good for you!
