Everyday Life

Today Was Fast

Zoom, out the door to take Owen to school.
Zoom, in the van to get to Bible Study.
Zoom, listen fast.
Zoom, get home before company.
Zoom, chase kids, feed kids, clean up little girl’s pee-pee puddle upstairs, clean up little baby spit up downstairs, put kids down for naps.
Zoom, in the van again to go get Owen.
Zoom, get around oblivious rude driver blocking left hand turn lane so that I can make the green arrow.
OH NO! Get pulled over (siren and flashing lights thank you very much) for crossing double yellow line with half of my van in order to get around oblivious rude driver blocking left hand turn lane and almost making me miss the light.
Zoom, quickly explain to Owen that mommy shouldn’t have done that.
Zoom, pray for God’s mercy and favor while the nice police man runs my license and registration.
Zoom, pray and thank God that I didn’t even get a warning, just a polite “be careful Miss Kelso.”
Zoom, get home and start dinner.
Zoom, fly through dinner, dessert and conversation with a couple from our Sunday school class.
Zoom, make a flier for guests lawn care business.
Zoom, say goodbye to guests.
Stop and relax, check e-mail, check facebook and blogs, and write a bit. Looking back…I enjoyed the rush of today. Even the traffic incident was exhilarating. I don’t feel like I did anything malicious (I know it was wrong, but I wasn’t being careless…I was close to the light and knew there was no danger for me or anyone else in what I did, it was against the rules though and I am ashamed of myself for justifying it so flippantly in all my zooming.) and I think the cop would have done the same thing were he in my place. He just had to do his job and tell me I shouldn’t have done that, and he was super nice about it. The guy behind me did the same thing and he got stopped too and probably got it a little worse because that light couldn’t have still been yellow when he zoomed through. Poor fella.

Now…I’m feeling the calm of an evening well spent and the thrill in the prospect of a coming storm. I am going to get my pajamas on, grab a tall glass of ice-water and listen to the thunder before I go to sleep. I know that sleep will come quickly tonight.

Zoom.

  1. Sounds like the kind of days I lead! I know that feeling 🙂 So funny about getting pulled over – for such a random offense, too!

  2. Exhilarating???!!! I loathe days like that. But, your post gives me the challenge of looking at them differently from now on.
