Tisra’s Paintings

Aron’s Hidden Name painting was a gift offered by Tisra when he was born. I love these paintings she makes and when she offered I was delighted. So much so, that after discussing with Kris, I asked her to make two more for the older two boys. I paid for those of course. It was well worth it.

I’ve had them for over a year but because they were not a common size I was waiting until I could properly frame them. Finally I realized that if I just got a frame a bit large I could buy a custom mat much cheaper than a complete custom frame.

I did not plan the colors in the boys room based on these paintings at all, however when I pulled them out after I painted I was shocked at how well the greens matched.

I have a loose theme in their room of transportation. It is mainly trains, planes and ships. Maps are a big part of it too and Tisra did a beautiful job incorporating an antique map feel to each of the paintings.

And now that I know how to put big pictures on my blog…you can really see them. Yay!!!

It’s been a long time coming but I finally have them hung on the wall. Their room is almost complete now. I still need to make them a window covering of some kind. And I’d like coordinating bedding but I don’t know if I’ll get that far. They love their homemade quilts from mommy and Reubmommy. I don’t know that they’d want to trade those in for the well tailored look I have in mind.

  1. Those look GREAT! And you’re right… they are perfectly matched for the colors in the room. I have to say… that room rocks! You have such a great eye for color!

  2. Mary- they look great with the colors you picked out! I feel bad that I hadn’t mentioned that you could buy ready-made frames and just do custom-cut matts. Sorry. I’ve been doing that for most pieces and it saves a lot of money. If you do ever want “custom” sizes for frames, I love Graphik Dimensions (an online framing company). They’re quite reasonable.

I also say- forget the matchy-matchy bedding. The quilts are far more treasured and lovely. I still LOVE LOVE LOVE Ivan’s quilt you made him. Although, that wasn’t twin-sized, was it? What are you using on their beds?

  3. Tisra – I don’t have much on their beds. Sheets from Target in different/coordinating blues, no top sheet, just fitted sheets with matching pillowcases. I even tried not matching the pillowcases so that Ivan’s pillow matched Owen’s sheet and Owen’s pillow matched Aron’s sheet etc. But Ivan would have none of that and in his OC manner switched them back when I wasn’t watching.

  4. Have I seen their room? I think I saw it but it wasn’t finished. I love that green. And as much as I love green in general I’m bummed that I haven’t really found a spot for it in the house (except the bathroom but it’s barely green).

The room looks fabulous. I love it that you still have that little wardrobe- I’ve always loved that. And I don’t think I’ve seen their quilts either. It’s hard for me to not want everything to match or at least coordinate. I would maybe get them all matching/coordinating bedding but let them use their favorite quilts at night. Maybe even have them under their comforters. I just like for things to look finished or intentional.

  5. Gabriel keeps exclaiming, “Oh! Those are such beautiful pictures!”
I would have to agree with him. 🙂 Tisra, you have some great talent!

  6. Amy – I’m kind of that way too. My heart beats faster when things look intentional or purposeful. I also like made beds to look very tailored so bunk beds are tough for me. I’ve been thinking lately of just creating a quilted coverlet that’s fitted at the corners just like a fitted sheet. They could sleep on top of it with their favorite quilts but when they are up and their quilts folded at the foot of their beds (because they will learn to do that one day) it will look like a very tightly made bed. Maybe some coordinating throw pillows and pillow cases but otherwise a simple solution.

  7. They look AMAZING and what a wonderful heirloom for each of them to have through the years. Great job Mary . . . and Tisra!

  8. I had the idea for roller shades that were maps the other day. Did I send you the picture of the Owens Garage sign? I like the finished, or almost finished, look of their room too.

  9. I just love the paintings Tisra. I shouldn’t be, but I’m a bit jealous of your talent. They look great in the room, Mary!
