Singing

Owen has been singing! We heard it the other night in the car and wondered if it could be, but nah…it probably was a coincidence that he spaced his syllables the way he did. Then we heard it again and again and then it became obvious that there was more to it. It had started as a two syllable word sung three times like this “Deedah, Deedah, Dee – Dah” It sounded just like the beginning phrase of “There’s Just Something About That Name” by Bill & Gloria Gaither. “Jesus, Jesus, Je – sus.” When we heard it again it sounded like this… “Deedah, Deedah, Dee – dah day deh deh bout name.” Kris and I were in the car and looked at each other very wide eyed. Kris was sure that he was singing, I was still doubtful, but it happened again, the same syllables in the same order and the melody was there for the most part too. Yes, he was singing There’s just Something About That Name. Cool! I sing the song to him every now and then, but it is not one I sing every day or the most common one he hears, but he has heard it and evidently he likes it. Now, of course, we sing it all the time because I like hearing him do it. It’s just so sweet.

In other news: The Patriots are going to the Super Bowl again and the Eagles will meet them there. Do I care about this…I care about watching a good game come Super Bowl Sunday so, sort-of. Kris and I are planning to invite our Sunday School class here to watch the game which should be fun. How? Well, just because we don’t have a television doesn’t mean we can’t watch the Super Bowl. We are hoping to borrow a projector from the church and cast the image up on one of the empty walls in our living room. We’ll probably hang a white sheet up first since our walls are possibly too dark for a good picture display.

Speaking of Sunday School we had a new couple in class yesterday and they seemed to enjoy it. I hope they stick around. They are somewhat older than most of our newlyweds but they are newlyweds none the less and that is the only requirement. Three of our newlyweds are pregnant right now and we have plans for two boys and a girl to join our little class soon. Maybe we can hook them up.

It is Monday and I have an eye-doctor appointment this afternoon. I had better get my “chores” done this morning.

  1. I started to cry when I read about Owen singing that song. You probably don’t remember but I sang that to him many times when he was first born, and this past Christmas, so I guess he has heard it quite a bit from you and me both. It is a peaceful song. Still, that is amazing! Wish I could hear it!

  2. I do remember you singing it. I told Kris that I noted when we went down their for Christmas before he was three months old how you and Meema sang almost exactly the same songs that I do when rocking him. Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Loves the Little Children and There’s Just Something About That Name. I almost cried at that because it made me feel like I really was connected with all of you beyond just marrying Kris. My mom sang those songs to me and I’m sure you did to Kris. Now Owen’s getting it from both sides.
