Greenway Day

The weather was too delicious yesterday to stay indoors. I decided to skip the library’s summer reading program and opted for a walk on the greenway instead. The boys and I went to the branch of the greenway that runs from Two Rivers park across the Cumberland River and connects to the Shelby Bottoms greenway for our walk. It was wonderful. The weather was sunny and warm, but we didn’t get sweaty. Ivan and I did get sunburned a little, but not badly. Aron was happy in his stroller, we took a snack with us and lots of water. We had the bridge all to ourselves on the way back and we pranced across it like we owned the place. We saw the General Jackson departing for a lunch cruise and observed as much wildlife as we could. There were flowers and blackberries attracting bees and butterflies and colorful dragonflies buzzed around us as well. I love riding the trails on our bikes but when we slow down and walk along them, there is so much to see. The river itself is so mesmerizing. I hope that someday I can live along a river. I just love the power and force it has, yet it seems so peaceful and serene as it flows hither and yon. It creates such a relaxing picture.

I got the boys home and they all took naps while I got ready for round two. Kris got home at 5:30 and I had the boys fed and ready to head out the door for the most part. We got to the trail head and though the pump broke before the tires were all aired up, we were still able to get going, ride the trail and be home again before sunset. The greenway between the Kohls trail head and the Percy Priest Dam is 3 miles and there is one very significant hill. So we rode a total of six miles pulling children up and down that hill. It is no small task for out of shape riders like ourselves, but we managed to do it and feel very good about it. After showers and baths and bedtime story it was a quiet and peaceful house that Kris and I settle down in. I had a little chocolate cake…because I deserved it…I went to bed happy and smiled my way into today.

This…

Owen was the performer doing incredible stunts on the slide.

Ivan played referee, shouting “1-2-3 GO!” into his microphone.

Aron cheered from his front row seat and waved his hand in delight at his brothers and their skill.

…is what is happening today. Soon I will have to make them stop for naps because I don’t like to take tired boys to church with me. They tend to be grouchy on the way home and I don’t like it. So in about two minutes they will be dried off and lying down…but I love my boys of summer.

  1. Yes, the weather has been to wonderful to stay indoors. I’m so thankful. The pictures of the boys in the water are so precious. The Button girls have been doing their fair share of water stuff too. I’m already enjoying this summer more than last year.

  2. Sounds like 2 lovely days! We have a greenway in FW as well. I’m looking forward to a long ride on it this weekend. I can actually ride to one of the entry points from home. Hasn’t the weather been great?!!!!

  3. Aren’t our greenways one of Nashville’s best offerings. I couldn’t be more excited about having such a wonderful resource so available to us!
