Everyday Life

Okay, I’m Back

I did go to Bible study and it was good and I did go to the Post Office because I had a few things that needed to be weighed before I could post them. So the online thing wouldn’t have worked for me this time.

It rained on us and we didn’t melt. Ivan fell asleep between the post office and the driveway somewhere so he’s in bed. Owen has been begging to watch Larry Boy so that’s what he’s doing and Aron is fed and changed and sitting in the living room sucking on his fingers. There were a lot of women in Bible study…a lot…and a lot of kids. I am glad I went but I’m also glad to be home.

Things around here are going well. We’re all healthy again so that’s good. We are enjoying the rain and hoping for snow. Wouldn’t that be great?

We enjoyed taking pictures with the Fadelys and Buttons over a week ago now. We got to hang out and play and really enjoyed a reunion of sorts. The kids loved it too. The next day was the Super Bowl which couldn’t have ended better in my opinion. No…I’m not a Giant’s fan, but I’m even less of a Patriots fan so it all worked out.

That week was full of ups and downs as I seemed to feel energized and motivated for hours at a time and then almost depressed later. I guess it was hormonal, and I wasn’t emotional, I was just unable to move for some reason. Like I was frozen in perpetual clutter. I had a stiff neck for several days too so that may have been part of it.

On Friday Michelle and Gabe came by for a few hours. The boys played out side and got muddy. We sat and talked over hot tea. It was nice and relaxing.

Yesterday, I registered Owen for school. We have been discussing what to do with our birthday challenged boy. He will turn 5 this year but it will be just days after the September 30 cut off which will keep him out of kindergarten for another year. I never thought that I would be upset by this but lately I am realizing that he is not challenged enough and needs some sort of structure and organization to keep him learning. Just last night we sat down and he was sounding out three letter words and getting excited as he realized what he was looking at. He still needs coaching and help with certain letters, I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s reading but he’s awfully close. He does addition and subtraction in his head and his vocabulary is very broad. So…I checked into Mount Juliet Christian Academy and registered him yesterday for the 4 year old Pre-K program. Their 5 day program is full so he’s on a waiting list and in the meantime will start in the 3 day program in the Fall until he can be bumped up. It’s only half days so it’s going to be a lot of driving back and forth for me but I trust it will be worth it. I really like their facility and staff, and the curriculum looks great. We’ll see how it goes.

Tonight Kris and I have a dinner to go to and a babysitter to pay. Hopefully I can get the place ready and organized enough for someone else to know how to get around in here and take care of my boys.

Aaahhh. It’s good to be back.

  1. Hooray for big news for you guys! Owen at school! Wow! Our old neighbor, Kathy, was a teacher at Mt. Juliet Christian Academy and I heard a lot of great things about it. So, not kindergarten, but still a big deal. I was wondering whether he and Dean would be a year apart or not. I hope there’s an opening for you.

  2. I know that they have to make a cut-off somewhere but it doesn’t take into account the maturity level of the individual kid. My birthday was in Nov. and I was more than ready to go to school before I turned 5 but had to spend a whole other year waiting. It still bugs me. And you might as well get used to the shuttling kids around thing because it only gets better 🙂

  3. Owen’s going to be at the top of his class. I just know it. He’s always been such the intellectual, even before he could express or show it. He’s such a thinker and a processor.
