Everyday Life

Sunday

Busy day today. Went to church and taught Sunday School today since Kris is out of town. There was a new couple in class and I hope they choose to stick around. There have been two young couples who have come a few times and then disappeared. They never tell you why, they just say…”we’re just trying out a few other classes.” What that really means is…we don’t like your class. I just wish I knew what they didn’t like. I feel the need to defend myself. The two couples who showed up were eager and warm. We had some good discussion time and I taught on some of the expectations that we bring to marriage, the good the bad and the ridiculous. The fact that marriage is not designed to give you someone who will fix you or who you can fix, but rather to provide a gift of support and friendship. I think it went well. Some of the other couples didn’t come because they were bringing friends and family to church this week and needed to provide transportation and moral support. We had a special service this morning in that Pastor Davis gave his testimony. The sanctuary was packed. There were people in the isles and they were setting up chairs. The choir had to stay up in the loft and the elders and board members were asked to sit up on stage to open up seating for late comers. The alter call went really well, with over 50 people going down front to receive salvation. I think more people than that raised their hands…they just didn’t have the boldness to walk to the front.

I had invited two women to church this morning and I saw that both of them were there. One was Erin, the wife of one of Kris’ co-workers. Her husband is in Dallas with Kris so I knew she wouldn’t be doing anything this morning. She and I are getting together tomorrow night too to watch a movie. That will be nice. We went to lunch after church today and Owen was so tired and frustrated I didn’t get to enjoy her company much. Hopefully he will be in a better state of mind tomorrow evening. The other woman is Rhonda. I just met her last night. I showed her the house, which she is interested in, and she was telling me a little about her situation in life. She is going through a divorce and it’s very painful. She was getting ready to leave and I asked her where she was planning to go to church in the morning. She started to tear up and said she hasn’t been to church in a long time. I told her that she needed to come to ours and she promised she would be there. I saw her in the back row before I left the sanctuary this morning but there were too many people between us for me to catch her and talk to her. I was just glad to see that she made it.

Owen and I got home a little after 2:00 I think and though he was very tired he was determined not to take a nap. I tried swaddling him and holding him really still with the pacifier. He laid there and stared at me quietly for what seemed an eternity but would not sleep. I finally unwrapped him and he promptly said…”Dant yu” and crawled away to play. He went to bed early. I just hope he sleeps late enough for me to get some sleep.

Madison Hunter came for the evening. Her mother, Amber, had a church event to go to that was designated a no kid event. They would have tolerated Madison if she had had to choose between bringing her or not coming but I was happy to watch Madison for her. She kept my mind off missing Kris. We had dinner, played with dominoes and watched a movie, My Dog Skip, and skipped the scary parts, then we started on a puzzle. We were nearly done with the edges when Amber came to pick her up. She was a good girl all evening and Owen enjoyed the distraction.

I received my nightly call from Kris and I’m very tired so I’m going to bed now. Can’t wait till Thursday.
