We put Kris’ new website up last night. It took us a long time to decide on a look for the site but I think we’re both happy with this.
We also went to the mall last night and got him some new shoes and a nice jacket. Obviously, it’s not jacket weather but that being the case it’s a good time to buy. Sales are very prevalent in jacket carrying stores.
While driving to the mall, (the boys and I met Kris there) Owen and I talked about the weather a bit. It looked very threatening in the direction we were heading and I was really hoping that we would be able to get to the mall before it rained on us. It did rain right as we were entering the mall parking lot and we waited out a short deluge before exiting the van. When the burst had lowered to sprinkle status I started rushing to the back of the van preparing strollers, opening the umbrella and unbuckling seat belts. The boys were not excited about getting out in the wet but I knew that if I could push one stroller and pull the other we would be in the doors quickly enough to avoid getting very wet. No problem…until…we were almost ready to make our dash, standing under the back door of the van for protection as we buckled into strollers and then…boom, crash, pour came another thunderous and violent deluge. The boys screamed I laughed and tried to calm them down. The rain started blowing sideways and I was holding the umbrella at a 90 degree angle to keep from being blasted by biting rain drops. The boys were getting soaked, I was getting soaked and my hands felt completely tied. This wasn’t a good idea. Kris was already inside the mall and I called him to see if he could run out and help. He couldn’t even hear me to find out where I was, so I put the umbrella down, allowing the rain to have it’s way with us. Pulled the boys from the strollers and threw them into the back of the van, where they continued crying hysterically. I picked up each stroller and thanked God for the large opening in the van that allowed me to just leave them unfolded and set them into the space. My entire back side was soaked and I climbed into the van with little dignity left. Now what? Kris called me back and said he could see us now. So we waited a bit for another sprinkle and then I pulled up to the curb where he made a dash for the boys and strollers and I re-parked the van. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be to walk around with wet clothes. I was able to stand beneath a dryer in the restroom for a little while to at least get a bit of hot air to penetrate and my shoes were easily wiped up. My hair was already in a ponytail and my shirt was a thin fabric that dried pretty easily. The boys were in pretty good shape other than being scared silly by all of it. I tried to make it sound exciting but it didn’t go over very well. I did have semi dry clothes (my diaper bag got wet, so the clothes packed in it had little spots of wetness as well) I could put on Ivan so that helped. They soon forgot about the whole thing and were merrily shopping along with us begging for things they didn’t need and pointing out all the fascinating things that make the mall fun. It turned out to be a very productive trip for us and despite the rain I had a good time hanging out with my little family.
wow, what a story! you ought to get an award for that! I couldn’t help but laugh and I feel guilty for it!
Those moments always remind me that I’m totally not in charge!
