Owen

Yesterday was Owen’s birthday. It was a beautiful day and he seemed to have a good time. We started out with our usual breakfast upon waking up and then second breakfast a couple hours later. He loves his cereal! He gobbles it up and always wants more. Today he ate two full bowls. After second breakfast we casually got ready to go to Melissa and daughter Jayna’s house where we also met Tisra and son’s, Grant and Dean. We all caravanned to an Orchard in Lebanon, TN to pick apples, eat a picnic lunch and just enjoy the beautiful weather. The kids enjoyed pulling and being pulled in the little red wagons provided by the farm and Owen was content most of the time just sitting and watching or being pulled around. He shared his wagon with Jayna for a little while which made a cute photo opportunity. I took him out at one point to sit him down under one of the apple trees for pictures. He enjoyed the shade of the tree and was surrounded by little red apples which he would pick up one in each hand to inspect and show me. We all ate lunch under a row of shade trees and the rest of the kids ran and played on the bench swings and the ramp leading up to a gazebo type shelter. There was a big pile of pumpkins that I was hoping to get all the kids into but they weren’t cooperating so I got a couple of Owen. He wasn’t really cooperating either but at least he can’t run away…he is smiling in only one of my pumpkin shots.

From the orchard we drove back to Mt. Juliet to a little place called Amy’s Frozen Custard. It was delicious. Owen and I shared a Raspberry Fudge Sundae. The custard is very smooth and so yummy…I told Kris about it and apparently it is all the rage among his co-workers at Renal Care Group as well. He said he’s heard 4 different people mention Amy’s Frozen Custard in the past two days. As far as I know it’s brand new and only at the Mt. Juliet location. I’m sure I’ll find out if I’m wrong. Evidently Frozen Custard is just a new way of saying premium ice-cream, which was sort of what I suspected. Custard being much like ice cream, I figured that it was just ice cream with eggs. I actually have a recipe for ice cream that uses eggs but it’s a lot more time consuming to make…it’s oh so yummy though. Anyway…that’s not what this blog was supposed to be about.

After our Custard treat we drove past our neighborhood and got on the interstate and headed to the West side of town in search of uncle Joel. He was home and after purposely setting off the alarm sound on my car to get his attention he came out to see us. I had tried knocking and throwing stones at his window but that didn’t work. He was evidently watching TV and didn’t hear any of those noises. Owen had a good time crawling around on Joel’s porch and giggling at all the entertaining things Joel did for him. One of the neighbors came over and joined us for a little while too and it was just nice to sit outside and feel the breeze blow through the porch.

We also had church last night and we got to see Grace and Landis and Hope. Aunt Becky gave him a hat and a card with a gift card for Old Navy inside. Owen didn’t like the floppy little hat at first but once daddy wore it for a minute he wanted it back and didn’t take it off the rest of the night…literally. He slept all night in that hat. He had a very full day and by the time we got home from church he was completely passed out. Kris was able to get his overalls off and lay him in bed without him waking up at all so there he lay until morning. I think he enjoyed his birthday and his party is yet to come. I’m sure we’ll have more to write about after Saturday’s festivities.

Good night.
