It’s Over

Night of Laughter is over for the year. We pulled it off and had a good time doing it. As tired and stressed as I have been over this thing I really went into it last night looking forward to the whole thing. I was excited and didn’t feel a bit nervous. I think after Tuesday’s rehearsal and then subsequent talks with those in charge of a lot of our technical things I really gained a confidence and a peace about how it was going to go.

There were a few things that didn’t get the laughs I’d hoped and honestly from where I was sitting it was hard to tell what was getting laughs. I couldn’t hear or see the crowd very well. We did have a good turn out with the count running somewhere around 476 people. Though that’s about 4 less than last year I wasn’t really surprised. For one thing, last year was so tightly packed and somewhat chaotic in the gymnasium that I felt some people probably left with a bad taste in their mouth just from the logistics of comfort and ability to see and enjoy the show. Also, last year there was a men’s event and a youth event at the same time so there were entire families that came out together which was somewhat more motivating I would think. I truly expect that next year we will again see growth. In fact this is the first year that it hasn’t grown in number.

The biggest laughs from what I could tell came from the three video spots. One was a mock interview with me (as a character, Patricia Green) and Pastor Davis. Pastor Davis did a bang up job as our renown pea hater and our media team at the church really sealed the deal with a fantastic editing job. My sister Becky and Christina Spitters did a video with their kids as a couple of moms racing to drop their kids off and get to their spots on the worship team. It wasn’t the highest quality video because Vanessa McGee and I filmed it and Tyler McGee did the editing so it was very homemade you might say, but it was very funny none the less. The ladies loved it. Then we purchased a video that has been circulating on the internet for a while called “Baby Got Book”. They really enjoyed that one too. The skits were funny, the songs were well done, I really appreciated each person that helped and put so much time into making it a quality event. Pastor Sandy gave me way too much credit at the end, but the 25 yellow roses she handed me were very nice and I hope that they last a long time. I can’t wait to start again.

  1. It was all really good!

I also would have to agree that those three video clips were my favorite top 3! The group of us that were driving home mentioned at how great of a job you did with your “pea green” character. You did a bang um up job; and the credit you got in the end was VERY well deserved! This was the 3rd one that I have been to, and in my opinion this one was the best. The comfortable seats helped, and also not having to stand in line for food helped. Each year the bar is raised, and I know you will be able to accomplish it again for next year! I very much look forward to seeing what you can come up with.

  2. I really prayed for you and I am so glad to hear it went well and you got the praise you do deserve. I brag on you alot. Next year I will just HAVE to be there. Enjoy the unwind!

  3. I thought everything was great. I enjoyed the videos a lot and I thought the one with Christina and Becky was hilarious. I’m sure you see all of the flaws but I thought it was great.
