Everyday Life

Change-o Range-o Ree

Map of ScotlandI’ve had a full week of errands, shopping and ever so much fun. Ivan and Owen have been good little helpers as we trudge through the daily stuff and I can count on each of them for little pick me ups throughout my days. If I’m tired and I need a hug…Owen is the hug master. He is always ready with kisses and squeezes and I can count on an “I love you” from him at least three times a day. Ivan has a smile that will brighten any cloudy moment and he’s just chomping at the bit to pass them around.

I did a little decorating in the boy’s room. Kristy, had given me this map of Scotland some time ago. I had it tucked away and finally found some time to staple it to the wall. I want to add more to this little picture including marking the town of Kelso on the map so that it is easily observed. I had a little bit of a struggle hanging the shelf as it is hard to be convinced that it is straight, even when using a level, on such a crooked background. Yes, I hung the map crooked on purpose. Don’t be silly.

I had a meeting with my writing team on Thursday night for the Night of Laughter. These women are so funny and so encouraging and I just love it. I can’t wait to see what all they come up with.

I have done a lot of running around this week and I’m glad for my restful Sunday afternoon. Tomorrow afternoon Kris’ parents and Mema will arrive for a visit. This will be the first time we’ve had them stay here and also had both boys sleeping in their room so there’s been a need to figure out sleeping arrangements. Kris and I have been working on that this week, just figuring out how we want to arrange things in a way that will not only make everyone comfortable, but will also make sense in the long run. We are planning to move Kris’ office downstairs, which opens up the small bedroom for a…well…bedroom. We don’t need two guest rooms all of the time so that will become my sewing studio most of the time. This means I can paint it a nice bright color and do some fun things on the walls. I won’t be painting for a little while though, too many other projects to do. Owen's New BedWe moved the full size bed into the little bedroom and purchased a twin mattress for Owen. The Fadely’s had an extra box spring so we stole that out of their garage while they were looking. We have had a twin bed frame, purchased at a yard sale a few years ago, stored in the closet and I’ve been wanting to put that in his room for some time. He was so excited about his new bed. Kris has been talking it up for a while in hopes of easing him into the change without any fuss. It worked. He’s been very happy since we made the switch yesterday. So…the guest room is still the guest room, Owen has a new bed, Ivan got a crib bumper upgrade, Mema will have her own room and Kris and I are sharing the extra space in our bedroom for our desks. It’s pretty nice. I actually like our room better this way…it makes more sense. It won’t last long and I have plans to move my little corner office downstairs as well. I’ll be setting up in the kitchen which will allow me to have computer, quilting, laundry and cooking all in one general area. I sure hope I like it. As I mentioned my sewing machine and fabric storage will be upstairs but I think that will work best, as the sewing area tends to look messy. I would rather it be out of sight. My quilt will remain center stage in the dining room until we purchase a dining table…I’m in no hurry on that. I started looking at one point and realized that everything I like would look funny in our dining room. Until I can change everything about my dining room…I’ll just quilt in it. I’m quite content with that.

  1. I really like the map. And, wow!, it does sound like you’ve crammed a lot in. Hopefully time with guests will be a great wind down from a busy week. Enjoy them.

  2. the map looks cool!
we were doing bed switching ourselves yesterday…moved the bunk beds to jackson’s room so that he and hayden can share soon….i am not quite ready to take the crib down for the last time yet!

  3. I hope all of your moving around went well. We can vouch that it makes things interesting. We only have a few things to do before I feel like it is all done.

  4. Kristy – Who else would have given me a map of Scotland…it had to be you. Unless…do you think mom or dad gave it to me since they visited you there? I really thought it was you though.

  5. Hey there. My computer has been broken but now it is fixie fixie! Just stopped by to say hello and let you know that I’m around again.
I really like how you hung that map. That is very cool.
I am thinking about painting storybook characters on Gabe’s walls. All of the old favorites. Where the Wild Things Are. Cuorderoy. The Little Engine that Could. And a bunch of mother goose images and such. You should come over sometime when you aren’t doing much and we could probably put our heads and our books together and paint some really neat stuff while the kids play.
I think it would be a lot of fun. Let me know!
    Take care!

  6. MICHELLE! Long time no read! So glad you’re back. I put your number in my address book and double checked it before deleting it from the blog…just in case you know.

Anyway… that does sound like fun and though I’m going to Michigan next week, hopefully after that we can make it a plan.
