My New Neice

Congratulations to my Sister Becky and her family on the birth of their fourth child, Adia “Faith” Bowen. Faith is grandchild number 10 for my dad so he gets congratulations too.

I have been staying up here at Becky’s house the past couple of days in order to help around the house. I feel sometimes that I am more of a burden as my presence also means the presence of my two sweet but often loud sons. Mainly my job is to do any heavy lifting. Becky’s oldest child, Grace, is in a wheelchair and is 7 years old. As you can imagine…Becky isn’t supposed to lift her for two weeks. Grace goes to school everyday so I am getting her ready in the mornings and then helping her after she gets off the bus in the afternoons. I am also trying to be thoughtful and helpful by doing some cleaning and things like that. Unfortunately for my sister I am probably the worst person to do this sort of thing, not because I am incapable but because I often overlook things and tend to be less thoughtful than I should be. It’s not intentional, I promise, I’m just not always aware of what needs to be done and It is something I have to really concentrate on to step up and be helpful. Sad isn’t it? I do want to help I just don’t think of everything and then later I feel stupid because it should have been obvious to me that someone needed help in some area. I’m getting better and she is becoming better at asking for help. She’s a very self-sufficient person so it isn’t easy for her to sit back and let someone serve her. Anyway…it’s working pretty well I think…I hope…what a waste if it isn’t huh?

What you are probably thinking now though is…tell us about the baby…we could care less about your hospitality issues…get on to the good stuff! So, here is a picture of Faith. Faith BowenShe arrived at 12:22 a.m. on Tuesday. She weighed 8 lbs. 15 oz. and is 21 inches long. She has a good bit of dark hair and has a dark complexion just like her siblings. She has no choice but to have blue eyes and already seems quite the dainty little thing. She has very long eyelashes for a newborn. Most babies that I’ve seen are lashless but this kid is blessed with quite the fringe. Her facial features are very petite but she has big hands and feet. She was about two weeks early and came quickly and relatively trouble free into the world.

PS – Kris, look at the picture and tell me if you can imagine that face saying…”I’m having an inkling.”

  1. Faith is beautiful!
    Congratulations Becky!

Mary I’m sure Becky is just so thankful that you are helping at all. It sounds like you are doing so much, and that your being a blessing to her and not a hospitality burden.
You are such a great sister!

  2. A new baby, yay! I’m so glad that everything went well and that everybody is healthy.

Mary, you’re the only person I know (except maybe Travis) that would go to help someone and feel guilty about not helping enough. I’m sure you’re doing fine and deserve a nice dinner out.
