Everyday Life

Quiet

The house is quiet. There is a bit of music drifting up from the stereo downstairs and every now and then I hear Kris talking to one of his teammates as he plays his computer game, but Owen is asleep, and the lights are down and it just feels quiet.

I took a bicycle ride with Owen tonight. We rode around the neighborhood. Owen watching everything for a while, and then falling asleep about halfway through the ride. I rode until it started to get dark and then took the poor kid inside, fed him and put him in bed. He lay so still while I rocked him but didn’t want to go to sleep. He didn’t even cry when I laid him down but he screamed when I shut the door as I left. It didn’t last long. He is sleeping very soundly now. When I went to check on him he didn’t even stir as I readjusted his blanket.

I had a bowl of ice cream after I put Owen in bed and played a couple games myself. I get a little bored on Monday nights, but I’m trying to find ways to enjoy these evenings and even to look forward to them. Sometimes it works…sometimes it doesn’t.

As I sit here at the computer I can look into our big new bedroom. There is just the lamplight to put a glow in the room and it looks very inviting. I think I’ll go snuggle up under my quilt and read for a while.

  1. Ah…I can’t wait to be able to ride my bike again. I just wonder how we’re going to pull three kids? I guess Dean and the baby can go in one chariot and Grant can go in the other. Whew- My quads will certainly be strong!

  2. You and I would have quite a crew if the two of us went. We’d have to try to divide up the weight evenly and then draw straws on who’s pulling the heavier load. We will ride by people and they will say to us…my what fine legs you have.
