Sick and Tired

Owen woke up with a fever this morning. It’s not too high so I’m going to let it burn for a while and hopefully kill whatever is causing it. He is sleeping right now and I’m so glad. He has whined and cried and wanted nothing but to be held all morning and I love holding him but it’s really hard with this belly and the constant urge to go to the bathroom. Joey showed up with an announcement that he has a sinus infection. He is on antibiotics so they weren’t concerned about keeping him here with Owen’s fever…never mind that I have to coddle two kids. I guess I should just suck it up and get used to it. My days of caring for one are over. He (Joey) too is sleeping other than the occasional coughing fit that wakes him up for 10 seconds but doesn’t keep him up.

I am tired. I got to bed late, I got up early and poor Kris is tired too. He pretty much has the same schedule I do plus an annoying cough that has bothered his sleep for too long now. One of us will be staying home from church tonight with Owen since we are determined not to be the ones spreading things around, not to mention…the poor kid needs to get to bed early at least once this week. We are so busy…I had him at the church with me until 9:00 last night, tonight would be church, tomorrow night is leadership dinner assuming we can all go, Friday night is the night of laughter and Saturday is the fly-in in Eagleville…and Owen has suffered some sleep loss because of it. Why am I not sick? The grace of an almighty, all-knowing God has sustained me and I ain’t just saying that.

Truly, I am overwhelmed more with gratitude than with stress. The Night of Laughter is probably the most pressing thing on my plate right now and I’ve been so blessed and impressed by the people who have helped and are working so hard to make it work. I can’t wait to see the ladies responding to all the time that these people have spent for their enjoyment. I’m expecting great things!

Joey woke up and is fussing…I must go.

Addendum:
Joey just left. His mom called back and said that after talking to their doctor again (the doctor called them back), they felt it best not to pass germs back and forth between boys and since the doctor hasn’t seen Owen and doesn’t know what sort of illness he is dealing with it’s best not to combine any possible problems or risk Joey’s health any further when he has just started the antibiotic today. So I am down to one sleeping boy at the moment and I just stepped outside and it’s beautiful. When he wakes up I’m going let him sit on the back porch to eat his lunch.

  1. I’m sorry Joey is sick, but so glad you get the day to baby Owen- he needs his mommy! It won’t be long, like you said, that you will have no choice but to juggle children. My unsolicited advice is to just take the day to hold Owen and give him every bit of attention you can muster. Your cheerful heart (and loving embrace) will be his good medicine.

  2. I’m sorry Owen is sick. 🙁 I’m glad that they took Joey home. Sinus-infected babies are usually cranky, and I’d never want to put that on anyone else. Not even a professional. I’m glad you’ve got some quiet time.

  3. Amen to what Tisra said, and Michelle too. A day care would refuse to take a sick baby and you probably should do the same. I’ll pray for Owen and for you guys this whole busy week!

  4. Owen slept for about 2 1/2 hours this morning and just went down again for an afternoon nap. He is acting so much better but still has a low fever. Hopefully all this sleep and the water I’m begging him to drink will keep this from becoming anything too terrible. I am going to call Joey’s parents tonight and let them know what to do about Joey tomorrow.

  5. Oh, my. The sickness. I am so sick of sickness! I am so sorry Owen is not well. I hope it is just a little fever and nothing more serious. Snuggles, lots of snuggles.
