Meow

Owen and I sat on the front steps this morning as Kris drove out of the neighborhood and off to work. I like to take him out there or to a window to wave goodbye to daddy for the day. After Kris was out of sight we stayed there for a little while to enjoy the morning air. As we were sitting there I noticed a cat was coming up the road. I pointed him out to Owen and tried to coax the cat to come nearer to us so that he could get a good look at him. As I was calling the cat I said to Owen…”that’s a cat. What does the cat say? He says meow.” I tried to imitate an actual meow sound for him and the cat responded with his own meow which was immediately followed with one from Owen. He did it twice. It came out more like MOW! But it was definitely an imitation. He was up in a high pitched falsetto tone and everything. He was delighted with the cat too, he of course wanted to grab his tail but the cat kept moving which kept Owen moving. His enjoyment stopped short when the cat tried to climb up on my lap. That was Owen’s territory and he defended it well.

  1. It’s nice that Owen has such a calm response to Daddy leaving in the morning. When Eric heads out, Grant usually has a very hard time with it and Dean has been known to pout and cry pitifully at the storm door. I’d almost rather Eric snuck out without saying goodbye to save me from the consoling that must occur!
