An Unmade Bed

I don’t think making my bed is the most productive thing I can do so I seldom get it done before 3:00. Now some of you would say…why bother at that point? Well, because it makes my husband feel good to come home and see his bed made. That’s it…otherwise it probably wouldn’t get done more than once a week at all. He doesn’t demand it or even ask for it, it’s just one of those things that I’ve noticed…when he comes home from work and the bed’s not made he straightens it before he does anything else. Just having a smooth quilt laid out over the bed makes a difference in his evening. It makes the rest of the room, and sometimes even the whole house, feel like there is some order to things. When I used to work and leave the house before he got up he would make it before leaving for work. I remember feeling the same way…something about coming home and seeing that one thing done is a comfort. Like it just peels a little layer of stress off and says “Ah…welcome home…you can relax a little now.”

Now if I could just keep my kitchen clean.

  1. I love a made bed, but mine goes through phases of being made daily and then a phase of being made once a week. There’s only one occupant so it doesn’t get as messed up. So that being said there are two arguments to be made: 1. It’s barely messed up so it’s easy to make it. You have no excuse not to make it. 2. It’s barely messed up, so why bother making it. It’s not that “un-made” as it is.

  2. My kitchen is the same way. It is usually always cluttered with something. A lot of the time I am hurrying up to get it back to decency before Tim arrives. The kitchen is the hub of the whole house so I guess it’s bound to be messy, I just wish it weren’t.

  3. I’ve never seen your kitchen messy. Mine is, always. Unless you are like me and you spend several hours before company comes running around like a rabid monkey trying to clean everyting at once. :p
