I haven’t posted in too long. I mean Tuesday isn’t too bad but I hate it when I go to post and catch up and then can’t remember what I’ve done. I guess if I can’t remember it’s not really interesting enough to post anyway.
I do remember that I went to church Wednesday night and that on Tuesday I realized that Owen had changed overnight. One day with his cousin Landis was enough to make him about twice as independent as he had been. He now refuses to take the stairs on his knees, he’s talking more about being a big boy and uses his toys differently. He needs older toys too. So many of his toys are too babyish for him and since we have a birthday coming up we are discussing the best options for a good combination of learning and fun.
Yesterday was a sewing party. I was busy all day and even neglected eating in order to get a few things done and rest. I had eaten a very large taco salad at 9:00 and for whatever reason it was enough to get me through until dinner. I did snag a piece of banana bread in the afternoon but when I really and truly had time to sit down and eat…I opted for laying down in bed for a nap. Something I’ll probably do again today. I’m still tired. Once the girls arrived I had such a good time. The conversation that we always enjoy, the news, the stories, the updates, it’s just all good. We ate well too. These girls are all good cooks. So many different backgrounds and different ideas about the future…yet here we all are sitting around the same table sharing the same moments. I love it. We had several different projects going and I’m happy to say that there was a lot of productivity. I finished the pillow I was working on this afternoon (see picture) because I got such a good jump on it last night. Melissa got two scrapbook pages done, Traci spun and I couldn’t tell you much more than that. I found it very interesting to watch her but I would like to see what she does with what she made. She didn’t bring a big spinning wheel…it was a drop spindle and she did drop it several times. It looks like a spinning top that you would play with only it was longer and looked more dangerous than that. Amber entertained us with stories about her Great Grandmother “Speck” who drives a Jaguar and will never die. Tisra knitted and “snuck” or “did sneak” around my kitchen cleaning up after everyone while I wasn’t looking, and LaDonna completed or nearly completed a baby comforter for a friend of hers who is having triplets. Lord Bless her!
Today…I feel like I’m on vacation. Joey is not here and Owen and I have run errands without anyone screaming in the back seat. We got salt for the water softener and a gallon of paint for the boy’s bedroom, got the emissions checked, deposited the babysitting money in the bank and picked up my new registration and the stickers for my car tags. Ahh, it was a productive day already and now I think I’ll take a nap…Owen is in his bed playing but I’m sure that once I threaten him with the horrible idea of a spanking he’ll settle himself down and I will be able to sleep in peace.
Oh…before I go…after leaving the bank I came upon a fairly busy intersection on Mt. Juliet Rd. where the traffic light wasn’t working. Everyone seemed to be handling it just fine and without assistance. They were treating it like a four way stop and keeping things moving. As I made my way through I looked to my left and noticed a poor woman in her mini van shaking her head and slamming her hands up against the sides of her face over and over. I don’t know what was going on but I was really hoping that it wasn’t the frustration of not knowing what to do at a traffic light that wasn’t working. It looked like she was going to turn right so hopefully she got it figured out without too much hassle. You never know though…there aren’t many in this state who take drivers training and something like that might just put them over the edge.
Let’s just hope that Minivan Lady had some kids in the back that she was trying to entertain with her antics. Please let that be the case.
It’s easy in Tennessee to have “road rage” with people who may or may not know what they are doing. My theory is that Nashville has SO many transplants; and very few natives. Before we moved to Springfield the only natives of TN I knew were Melissa and Tim. Everyone learned how to drive in there own State, and it’s left us with a bunch of Crazies on the road. Being fair, I’m probably on of those Crazies form Colorado.
I also had fun last night. I was nice having five of us!
A good time for sure. Wait I have to “do” something with the yarn that I spun??!! Oh My! Haven’t gotten to that yet!!
Great pillow! It looks so pretty. Did you just put the picture up?
Yeah…I went back to my post and realized that it was silly not to get a picture of my work so I edited and added the picture.
I love the pillow!
I’ve already told Traci she need not worry about learning to knit or crochet- she can just pass the lovely wool my way. 🙂
Yes…I guess I’m just wondering if there’s a process for storing, dyeing, how long does one make the threads and how do they put them in those pretty twists you see in pictures? It’s all very interesting and something I’d never really thought about before Traci and her spinning entered our lives. 🙂
“the pretty twists”…do you mean ‘hanks’? If so, I fully agree. They are pretty and show off the yarn so much better than a ball. I’ve not reasearched it (!)k, but have come across information on dyeing animal fibers with Kool Aid. Accessable and neat (and probably smells great). Yes, a whole new world has opened up to us “sewers”. I like the variety our group has acquired. What I really need is for some of the scrapbooking to rub off on me- the stacks and stacks of photos are getting out of hand! (Although I see the mypublisher albums in my future!)
I was talking to Kris about that very thing this morning. I love the idea of scrapbooking and my neighbor would be a great resource, she’s teaching classes on it and I’ve seen some of her beautiful work and it makes me drool. However…I’m really getting into the quilting thing and I could see myself spending way too much time on both to do either one well.
That’s a nice pillow but I really, really like the chair. Is that new?
No…the chair is about 200 years old. Kris’ mom gave them to us right after we got married. There are two of them and I had recovered the seats when we lived in the other house to go in our bedroom. Now one is in our bathroom upstairs and I moved the other down to the dining room and again changed the seat fabric with a small piece from the dollar table at Wal-mart. The chairs are really too old to use for seating so I have towels on the one in our bathroom and this one I figured would be out of the way enough that no one would be tempted to use it.
Mare: (I call you that from time to time, but to put it in writing makes you a horse, pretty funny)
The pillow looks fabulous. Spec would be so proud 🙂 She could use something similar to keep her close to the windshield while driving, or maybe I could use it to hold (tightly) while I’m riding with her.
I’ve got a project and no sewing parties before my project needs to be complete. What am I to do? Want to help sew 13 small handbags for Maddie’s party????
We may need to call a special session of our sewing party! 🙂
I could probably help but I want to know first that it’s easy and uncomplicated.
