Owen has become quite the clapping fellow since Grandma was here. I had sat with him and tried to get him to play Patty-Cake with me, but to no avail. Now, he will slap those hands together on demand and he’s so proud of himself.
My sister’s son Landis learned to Patty-Cake while my mom was visiting one summer, so I’m beginning to think that only Grandmas have the ability to teach this very prestigious game.
He is also quite adept at waving now, and loves to say “buh” which is Owen for “bye”. His kisses are sweeter and sweeter every day and I’m sure we would be quite amazed at his insight if we could interpret the constant jabber that we hear on a daily basis now. He uses a lot of inflection and emphasis on certain things he says and it’s obvious to me that there is truly something on his mind he wants to share.
There are still a lot of things that baffle us too. Like, why is it that he’ll crawl a few feet and then stop and lay his head down, crawl a few more feet and lay his head down again? Does he tire easily? And why is it that he’ll stand at the rail of his crib crying for me to come get him but will immediately lay down when I get close enough to pick him up? Does he like to make me bend more, or does he think that I cannot get him out unless he is laying down? Strange.
All in all, I’m enjoying this whole parenting thing. I think I’ll keep him.
I am so thrilled to get credit for teaching something so important to Owen!
When he lays down in the crib for you to pick him up, its probably because he knows that’s what you put him in there to do – to lay down. He is trying to make you happy so you will pick him up. I don’t know really. Just sounded good to me.
Moms are great and all, but there is always something about Grandma that can’t be beat! Grant learned a few things for the first time with Eric’s mom because I hadn’t even thought to *try* certain skills with him at that particular age yet. Having not been around too many babies (which I guess wouldn’t apply to you), I didn’t know that he should be sitting by 6 months and hadn’t even attempted it. Sure enough, he did it right after the suggestion. Same with a few other things. Oh, but I’m an old pro now! Yeah, right.
