We noticed on Sunday that our air conditioning wasn’t as cool as it should be but we were able to drive under cloud cover most of the way so it was not a big issue. We don’t, however, want to drive back or drive around the rest of the summer with an uncool car especially during pregnancy. So we got it checked out and found that we have a switch that has a leak and if we need to get a part from a dealer it will cost us over $300.00 dollars. If the mechanic can find one from a third party it will be a little cheaper but we don’t know how much cheaper. Either way…we trust the guy as he is someone Kris’ parents have found to be very honest and if we spend the money…we know we’re not getting ripped off.
The trip home is a bit unsure as we don’t know what hurricane Dennis is planning for us. We may need to leave early, or we may need to go a different way. I don’t want to do either of those things so we are praying that Dennis changes course or dies down incredibly. I’m leaving the decision up to Kris. He’s had a bit more hurricane experience than I have.
Owen had a great time at the beach last night. We ate a big dinner at the Friendly Fisherman Restaurant and then went to the beach to see what Owen would do with the sand. He loved it. He didn’t like the water, I think it scared him because it moved. As we walked toward it he was apprehensive and when we got up to it he backed up as the water came toward him. We tried several times to show him it was safe or fun, but he was completely uninterested. He loved the beach though. He ran and ran and dug in the sand and had it all over himself. We took pictures of course but as I am on another computer and Kris hasn’t downloaded the pictures to his computer I will not take the time to post one yet. Definitely later.
During the day Tuesday, Kris and Owen and I went to the mall with his mom and did a little shopping. I found a pair of comfy shoes for 60% off and a $36.00 for less than $3.00. I love a deal. We also went to Toys R Us to get a gift for some friends of ours who are due to deliver their first baby (a girl) in about a week. They are very excited and we were able to have dinner with them Tuesday night and see their nursery and catch up on what has been happening as they prepare for this life change. Everything is ready for little Hailey to arrive including a closet jammed full of pink clothes.
Don’t you just love how I work backward in my blog? That’s what happens when I don’t write daily. Hope it wasn’t too confusing.
Travis asked me if I’d ever been to the Friendly Fisherman and (GASP!!!) I’d never even heard of it. I’ve been to St. John’s pass a few times though and have probably seen it.
I’m GREEN with envy!
The weather here is so hot and clear that I find it difficult to wrap my head around the idea of a hurricane. Let us know what ends up happening with the car and trip home.
Oh, and as far as AC goes, Eric and I did a trip like that from Pennsylvania. The AC in our Honda Accord started going out on the 12 hour trip home and it was September or August, I think. We got so desperate at one point that we bought a block of ice at a gas stop and put it at the foot vent hoping to blow some cool air upwards. It kinda worked.
Oh my. I hope we don’t have to resort to a block of ice. It looks like we will be waiting out the storm. I talked to the people at church about the program I was supposed to be a part of Tuesday night and Kris talked to his boss and all are understanding regarding us not wanting to cut our vacation short or drive through a hurricane to get home. We will get home Tuesday night or Wednesday night.
We’re having car trouble on our vacation, too. Just a flat tire, though, so hopefully the hole is able to be patched instead of getting new tires. Again.
And Gabe had a great time at the beach too! And we had a run in with the hurricane. Our vacations seem to be on the same course, even though it’s in different places and at different times.
The outer banks rock. I recommend it highly to you guys if you ever decide to go somewhere new.
Are you guys home yet?
