True To Life Tuesday

Several weeks ago I mentioned starting a new post series called True To Life Tuesday. I decided this was a good Tuesday to make that happened. I doubt I’ll do it every Tuesday, but it may be fun to see what comes of it.

There were 18 of us here last night for a dinner get together with 2 of my sisters and our families. I have been planning it for a long time and it went pretty well I think. I was able to get a lot of it cleaned up last night, but it was very late and of course there are remnants and reminders of what was, still lingering about the house. The two long tables, borrowed from a neighbor, and the scene which bears little resemblance to the colorful crowd they supported last night.

Indoors, the kitchen table was moved up against the wall to hold the buffet of burgers and sides. The water pitcher and baskets were brought in from the porch along with a towel from wiping up a water spill from Christopher into Aron’s chair. The pinwheel place cards, some still clinging to their name tags, some completely anonymous, were stuffed into the chip baskets and left for me to question what to do with today.

I used paper but it doesn’t negate the preparation clean up. I also did very well about washing as I went, but you can’t get it all done ahead. So they remain.

…and the chairs. I barely had enough of them, yet now they are standing awkwardly in the middle of the kitchen with no inconspicuous place to get away.

The paper and scissors and pencils and push-pins left from making pinwheels with the kids after dinner.

I enjoyed our dinner on the porch. The temperatures stayed below 90 yesterday which definitely helped to keep us more comfortable and moving my curtains to the west side of the porch helped block some of the afternoon sunshine and heat. It was a full table and a full evening. The camera lens steamed up when I brought it outside so here’s a misty memory of Monday to end the post. I’ll post pictures eventually of the actual event. (No…I don’t know what Becky’s doing in this picture, but it’s kinda funny.)

  1. I love these! Party aftermath is an all-too-familiar scene in my home 🙂 I love the pinwheels in baskets. That’s always the hardest part for me – deciding what to do with the pretty things I made for the party. They’re not really keepers, but they’re pretty and I *made* them, you know?

  2. Thanks Wendy, it was a nice time.

Christy, I do know. I guess the best we can do is save them in pictures and free up our cabinets and storage bins. 🙂
