A Tutorial of sorts
My friend Heather is a remarkable talent. Her eye for peaceful colors, environments and vignettes is very, very keen. She recently posted a photo on facebook of a small table display that included a tall glass vase with dirt in the bottom and white tulips rising out of it. It was so springy and earthy and pretty…I had to try it.
I already had a tall glass vase (sitting empty since my pumpkin display) and I had asked her about her tulip bulbs and wouldn’t you know it, she didn’t plant them. She just bought the already growing flowers in a pot and “plopped” them into the vase.
Done.
So I am sharing the love…I hope she doesn’t mind.
Here’s what you’ll need:
One tall glass vase (Hobby Lobby or HomeGoods are a good source…but I think clever Heather picked hers up at a yard sale)
One potted tulip plant (Found mine at Publix, I’m sure other groceries have them too)
A little extra potting soil to fill in the gaps
Water
Moss for laying out that carpeted, Easter, Spring look (I picked this up at JoAnn’s, but Hobby Lobby has it too)
I’m not going to bore you with a lot of details on this. Just be sure to cover your table first cause it can get messy. I used a worn out towel.
Carefully pull the bulbs from the pot and even more carefully drop them into the vase.
You will want to cover the blooms while you pour extra dirt in. Otherwise it will forever be trapped inside the nooks and crannies of your flower. I used a used bread bag I had just emptied. It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t smooth, but it did the trick.
You’ll want to use something long and narrow to tamp down the extra dirt. You want it to fill in all the space at the bottom of the vase that the potted block of dirt didn’t quite fill in.
As I watered the tulips I tried to pour it onto the sides of the vase and wash down the dirt that stuck to the sides. The dirt I used was already damp so it was extra messy. The first time I did this my dirt was very dry and I had no trouble with dirt sticking to the sides of the vase. Regardless, this was easily wiped away with a paper towel.
Carefully lay down the moss in small pieces.
Smile big! You’re done!
Ooh, pretty <3
