One Tuesday Morning in June

True to Life Tuesday. I was thinking last night that I might start a series of posts on reality. The down to earth, laundry piled in the corner, crumbs under the table, dust on the television sort of posts. Not as an opportunity to whine, but as a base for something beyond it. Living life is messy sometimes, especially if you are paying attention to the really important things. Just a thought.

I am also seriously considering changing my blogging location. I totally feel stuck here and I HATE that feeling. When I started blogging, Kris was blogging too and was active with me in updates and changes. Now…everything is different and I think he understands my frustration and has been listening to my scenarios involving other options. I have the same amount of desire to learn HTML and programming as he has to learn to cook. We lean on each other for these things. I want out of this kitchen!

Also…I just spent 15 minutes (it usually takes 5-10 minutes but sometimes it takes an hour) getting rid of spam on this blog. I don’t want to put restrictions on comments because people already tell me they can’t figure out how to leave a comment. I want it to be simple. So…there must be a better way. Spammers should be sent to Guantanamo. Nothing makes me want a product or to visit a website LESS than when it is forced into my face when I am trying to do something else. Go AWAY! I will avoid you like the plague if you do this…it’s reverse advertising to me. I wish it were that way for everyone, but obviously it’s not. If it weren’t working, they wouldn’t do it.

Enough negative. Didn’t intend to sound so whiny.

This is VBS week. The boys are almost ready to go this morning. Ivan has to get dressed and take care of his PJ’s and we’re good. They LOVE VBS. They love anything the children’s department does. I’m so thankful they have an active group of ministers and volunteers. Owen has become involved in the praise team and I know Ivan will too as soon as he’s old enough. They are supposed to start in 3rd grade but that rule went into effect after Owen had already joined in Kindergarten, so he was grandfathered into the new set up. That means it will seem like a long time before Ivan can join too, but I think he’ll be that much more ready.

Ivan is my little Psalmist. He marches around the kitchen pumping his fist and shouting praises to the name of Jesus. It’s pretty awesome. He makes up songs and sings while he works and he loves to sing about the NAME. It’s actually pretty encouraging.

Time to get going. VBS awaits.

  1. I find it funny that you and I seem to often think of the same things, blog-wise at least. I was going to do the same type post yesterday and call it Keepin’ It Real. But I hadn’t gotten to it yet. I love the idea.

I like WordPress, obviously. It’s easy enough to use, etc. Although I don’t know if that would fill your need to design your own blog skin and such. I do like that it has a spam filter that I don’t really even have to look at. I mean, occasionally it will hold one for me to manually delete but it’s rare. But then, maybe I’m just not as popular as you are 😉

  2. I like this Tuesday thing…I like the real mess of life 🙂
The spam thing bugs me too. I get them on my blog at Blogger, but I approve all comments before they publish, so I have the chance to delete them first. And I agree – I will absolutely never buy something from a spam ad. Never.

  3. I’m a stalker. 😉
There are really good WordPress plugins that will stop spam and make commenting easier.. even using facebook, google, or other accounts.

There are also TONS of options from the theme and appearance. Easy to tweak too.

Do you host your own website?

  4. Hey Stalker Wendy. I went to your sight and stalked to get back at ya.

I like wordpress and sent a link to my web-guy (husband) so that he can get me set up. I know I can do a basic page on my own, but there is very little about me (other than my appearance) that is basic. Most of me is high maintenance and requires time and attention in order to function well.

We used to run a server where we hosted several sites. Now…we have a couple sites for ourselves, mainly our blogs and my husband’s business site. I like to play around with graphics, so I can’t just grab a theme off the web. I must have unique and personal or I’m very put out. 🙂

    I enjoyed exploring your site.

  5. I paid $125 for my site theme and specifics. I am the same way… I was very specific and needy and picky and anal.. and all those other Dana-Lawson-Descriptive-Words. 😉

There are soooo many options with WordPress.. it’s worth the investment to have it custom made to your preference. 🙂
