A salesmen from just south of Boston,
Was sent to a job in north Austin.
He was sure to do well,
But he just couldn’t sell,
The translation was far too exhaustin’.
Another snow day here in Middle TN. The snow came fast and furious yesterday afternoon, just in time to really muck up the evening commute. Kris made it home just in time to smell dinner. He could have eaten with us if he had known that traffic would pick up outside of down town and dinner took me a long time to prepare. As it was, he had picked something up in preparation for an evening spent in his car and ate before we did. No matter, I was just glad he was home.
The boys are still in pajamas of course and we are having another take it easy morning. I let them eat Saturday cereal (sugary cereal only allowed on Saturdays) with the promise that they will have to eat a healthy breakfast tomorrow. They are watching Veggie Tales but we won’t have the TV on all day. I promise. We have books to read and snow to watch melt. I love snow days.
In other news, there’s a new blog in town. Ten years ago this October, my mother passed away and as we went through her things we found enough of her diaries to fill a very large Rubbermaid tub. My sister Becky wanted to be the first to go through these and we all obliged this. I think we even talked about getting them transcribed to a digital form for all of us to read through at some point. In the past several months she has been reading them and even posting some of the short entries on Facebook on birthdays or when a funny incident was reported. Even our extended family has been interested in this as she mentions babies born and antics of little boy cousins while she was babysitting.
Becky was encouraged to put these entries into a blog and publish them for everyone to see. I approved of course. She set it up and sent me a link last night and I have added it to my side bar here. We brainstormed on names and decided upon “Remnants of Virtue.” It is a collection of the little pieces from a wonderfully well rounded and complete picture.
Becky has already posted several days worth, and the entries begin in her teenage years beginning on January 1, 1961 (she would have been 16 years old). She and her immediate family were still Amish at this point but I believe she was beginning to attend the Mennonite church around this time. I really wish I had more background to go on and her entries are NOT very detailed at all. Brief and to the point they simply record the events that were important to her and give us a narrow view of what things were and how she appreciated them.
I hope you get a chance to take a peek and feel free to wander in unannounced now and then. She always liked pop-in visitors.
Sooooo excited about the new blog! I will be a frequent “pop-in visitor.”
How exciting! I don’t know how many kids are fortunate enough to have a written account of their mom’s life. I’ll be over to visit. I didn’t know her but I wish I had.
Adding it to my Reader feed right now!
that is so wonderful that she left all those diaries! Especially for her daughters! I’m looking forward to getting to know Josie.
