Owen’s school, like most schools I would imagine, always has something going on. It is all good stuff but I am unable to participate in all of it. I would be quite done in I’m afraid. This coming weekend is probably the biggest event of the school year. The annual shopping extravaganza will flood the gymnasium with vendors and shoppers, ready to take and make for Christmas. This event raises a lot of money for the school and that helps cut down on tuition costs, which makes me happy. Classes are asked to participate by creating themed baskets that are raffled or auctioned (I can’t remember which) off at the event. Owen’s class chose to create a “Rainy Day” basket filled with anything and everything one might choose to entertain oneself with on a rainy day.
Thursday, I went out shopping for something to include in the basket as our Kelso family contribution and as I had a coupon at Yankee Candle, I decided a candle would be just the ticket. I purchased two yummy smelling candles and though I was intending to use the “Be Thankful” candle, which smells of buttery and sweet pastries, I got a further inspiration on the way out of the parking lot and used the “Gingerbread” candle instead.
When I got home, after putting the boys to bed, I got busy with my little “rainy day” idea and here is what I came up with. There’s nothing wrong with a little shameless self promotion in these things is there?
So…do any of you faithful readers think that this is a sell-able idea? I think it’s cute, but is it marketable as it is. Should there be a place for a note somewhere? I think I could easily include that by creating a pocket where the recipe is. A place to tuck in a coordinating, handwritten note. Any thoughts?
Is the ribbon at the bottom (through the grommet) to keep the card “tented” during baking?
I think that it should be a card somehow. Like maybe that’s the front of the card and a message could be written on the inside? If I got a card like that I’d love it! I’m always stashing recipes in different spots.
Tisra – Yes. It’s a little hard to tell, but the ribbon is stapled to the back of it. I had thought of doing something like this so that greeting cards could be displayed easily. I was thinking more of tying a string around a button though so that it could be a regular greeting card and then set out on display with the button and string, almost like art. Because this was sort of last minute and completely different as a recipe card I made it more simple. Wheels are continuing to turn though. 🙂
Amy – Maybe, I could do that…put a message on the inside…and then put a fastener (plastic snaps or Velcro maybe) on the inside ends of the ribbon to allow the tented card for easy reading while baking.
hmmm. Maybe it would be more cute as well if I used a longer length of ribbon, glued it to the inside and then the ends run through the front of the card allowing a bow on the front instead of just a single line of ribbon.
I love it! I love it as is or with changes 🙂 – not very helpful, I know. Also, there’s definitely nothing wrong with the shameless promotion. Emma’s school does an auction every year and half the reason people donate stuff is to promote their businesses!
As one who likes sending and receiving notes, I think that would be a good thing to add, but not feeling creative enough to say how it should be done.
When you said you had a post ready to go, I should have asked what it was so I could see this cute little creation. It’s adorable! I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s post 😉
