The drive home went well. We encountered very little rain and most of our trip was overcast so as not to further tire mommy’s already tired eyes.
I packed us each a sandwich, some fruit and a big bottle of water so that when we got hungry for lunch we could find a park and let the boys run for a bit. It worked out really well. I looked up some parks in IN near the interstate and we stopped in Gas City and found a great playground. There was actually an attached petting zoo but I didn’t have it in me to pet goats and avoid goose poo with all three of them by myself so I didn’t even tell them it was there. It was way off on the other side of the park so they were unaware and happy.
I had let the boys wear their pajamas as we started traveling so when we got close to lunch time I stopped for potty breaks and grabbed clothes out of the suitcase for them. Matching outfits were right on top so, though I wasn’t trying to shoot pictures for an album cover or anything, it was kind of nice that they matched. I like it when they match anyway. It’s honestly a safety feature for them. People know they belong together and if one gets lost I can say…he looks exactly like these two only shorter. That sort of thing. So while we are potty-ing and changing it started raining. When we got to the van it was coming down pretty good and I told the boys that I had planned to eat outside at a park. So the four of us prayed that God would give us a dry park to eat and play at. Just one exit down the interstate we stopped and so did the rain. The park looked like it may have gotten a sprinkle but everything was very dry and the boys were free to play on everything except one merry-go-round that had a pretty deep moat around it.
So…here are the pictures from play time on Tuesday.
We started out in the little kiddy playground that was completely fenced in and I could sit on the big bench swing and eat cherries while they played.
Pretty soon “super dad” showed up and his two older boys were content to play in the kiddy playground too. “Super dad” even got suckered into pushing my boys on the merry-go-round for a while. I let him…I was pretty busy with the camera and the cherries mind you.
The two older boys got bored and so did my smaller boys so off they went to mega playground for some big fun.
After a while I decided to take advantage of the matching outfits and I ordered the boys to sit on a rock and make happy faces. They made silly faces mostly, but I got a couple semi-normal photos.
I just thought this one was funny because for whatever reason all three of them are holding up their right leg. I don’t think it was planned or anything…I just noticed it when I was looking back through the pictures. That’s the sort of thing I can’t keep to myself. Look! They are lifting their right legs everyone!!!
I was trying to get them to leave and Aron begged me to hold him. I wasn’t having anything to do with that sort of nonsense, so I bent my face down and took a picture of him. I love that kid. This is his disappointed look. Actually it’s more of an “I won’t give up, if I smile real big mommy will give in” look, but I didn’t.
The two oldest had run to the van like I asked them to but as they were so far ahead of me and the begging one, they decided it would be okay to climb up on the picnic table for some band practice. I let the begging one join them and they obliged my camera with a trio of air guitars.
The whole stopping to play thing put us back quite a bit, but I think the boys were grateful and they definitely slept well afterward. We got home at a decent hour and got to bed on time. We relaxed quite a bit on Wednesday and enjoyed being home.
This concludes the “Picturific” series.
Good planning with the sandwiches and park!!! SO much more fun than a McDonalds play area (not to mention more sanitary, healthier food….).
Love the picture series! You did well. I’ve taken a couple of cross country trips with my girls alone and it is so much harder.
Wonderful!
Oh wow! I’ve missed a lot!
I love the pictures of all the silly faces. It’s great to get one where there all smiling but I think I like silly faces the best.
“he looks exactly like these two only shorter”…that made me laugh. Really though, we like to put the same color shirts on the girls because it’s easier to keep an eye on them at the park.
I’m glad you were busy with the camera because hyou got a bunch off good shots! Um….to go along with the raised leg thing, did you notice they’re all by a tree? Men marking their territory and all. Your boys are so cute, they’re definitely not dogs, but you had to go and point it out.
